Speeding Ticket Alert

I got this email today and do not know if it is legitimate, but felt I should post it here, just in case it is:

"California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in CA starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that $22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets.

$3 million will go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90 California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7 freeways. They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 605, 10, 60, 210 freeways.

Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket, and the California Highway Patrol officers are supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes.

They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part-timers on full time.

If you live or work in California, you must take one of these freeways. It's up to you how fast you are going when they do.

This is a test by the CHP to raise the extra funds for the State. The California State Legislators dreamed up this program to help close the budget gap. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you.

You've been warned. So slow your roll.........and pass this on to your family and friends!"

THIS IS BOGUS

This has been going around for a long time, each time a different town. Last one I was was here on NAM and it was Hawaii.

Just looked up the last one from Hawaii: http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/speeding.asp

Clo thanks for the tip. You notice they did not include the 405? They probably figure no one could speed on that log jam if they wanted to

Well, Earl, even if it is bogus, answer me this: you get pulled over a lot. Are you going more than 7 mph over the speed limit when they nab you?

Yeah, Randy! The 405 and the 91...both gridlocked freeways...weren't on the list. I think there may be something to this.

With the traffic jams I've been in in the SF Bay Area and in LA, I don't know how any of you who live there ever manage to go fast enough to get speeding tickets. You want speeding tickets, drive Interstate 80 from Reno to Elko. Room to zoom, but the bears are watching you.

Of course, you should always obey laws regarding the road.

Yeah, but you get pulled over all the time. I'm talking to the more "normal" MINI motorers!

You should see how fast people drive on the 5 near Costa Mesa/Irvine/Mission Viejo! I get out of their way...many are blasting along at 90-100mph! Seriously!

And most of those going 100 are SUVs! :impatient

Yea I got pulled over the other day for "threatening" the sophomores in the car next to me at a stoplight... Just got a verbal warning though. I have gotten pulled over about... 10 times for various reasons, and have recieved no tickets.

The threatening deal was just me giving some advice, if they ever cut me off and flip me or any of my friends off again, I'll walk over and break that finger of there's. The cop had his window down so...

Mikey, SoCal is NOT South Bend, Indiana!

Just in the greater-Los Angeles area, the population is 10 million. Our traffic issues are some of the worst in the nation. In fact, it is a minor miracle when you can even go the speed limit! :impatient

To ticket for speeds 7+mph over the limit is tantamount to cruel and unusual punishment!

One thing that makes me more mad than anything is inexperienced drivers doing dumb things, cops should be writing more reckless driving citations and less speeding tickets.

This is a Hoax/rumor e-mail that's being passed around lately. Well documented at Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/speeding.asp).

Kinda like a chain letter, subject matter gets us in the emotional part of our brains and we all forward it on to our friends/family/loved ones w/o even thinking. E-Mail's convenience has made these dammed hoax e-mail things all too easy to send along.

I try to double check things on Google or Snopes whenever I can. Hate being had.

Thanks, Dave....as I said in the opening post of this thread, I was not sure if this rumor was correct, but posted it anyway.

Yea I don't think I would be saying anything like that to people in SoCal. Don't know about you guys but like I stated before we have a "ricer" problem here kids weaving in and out of traffic at 110+ after school, but yet the only people you see getting tickets are the old farts who were going 42 in a 35. I can only begin to imagine how the traffic is out there. I nearly crap my pants everytime I drive on the Dan Ryan in Chicago, I would need to get some depenz b4 I drove out there.
