Kudos to Brecht MINI and Cabrio FYI...

Okay - so we did have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment - BUT - they only have 2 MINI technicians - not a whole lot we can do about that.

We took the Cabrio in for a few minor nit noy fixes and everything was taken care of within 2 hours while Mike waited. Nice wash job also... Scott the Service Writer was super friendly.

As a side note, as Mike was waiting, he had a very interesting conversation with Scott. I don't know if any of you have been following a couple of threads on MINI2 about the Imploding Cabrio rear window, but Brecht saw first hand - in person - a local Cabrio (owned by the daughter of one of the Padres), come in on a flat bed with the back window in a million pieces.

Bottom line - Brecht is covering (as they should) a new top under warranty. So any of us Cabrio owners out there, just FYI.

Glad to hear you received great service, so hard to find these days....

About this imploding rear window...what causes this? How scary, good that it's covered but hope that never happens, especially with rear passengers!

Also, Donna, don't mean to get off topic with the post, but I know you have the cabrio with blue top. I've had mine about 5 weeks and I have white spots on the fabric in the exact same spots on both sides, have you seen this with yours? The spots appear to be from rubbing, they don't come off whe I wash the car.

Maybe we need a Cool Blue/Blue top thread?

You must be lucky!

Hey Donna, at least they gave you an appt! Last time I tried to make an appt with Brecht, they told me they weren't taking any new clients until the new service bays were finished... in May. Maybe they just didn't want to do the recall work. Anyway, Thursday I'm driving up to Crevier for the service.

BTW, All German Auto is just a few blocks away from Brecht MINI, and they do work on MINIs too. They are very nice, and the shop is spotless, but the only thing I've had them do so far is mount and balance a tire. They did a great job though.

There have been NUMEROUS postings on MINI2 about the imploding rear window. Nobody seems to know what is causing the issue yet. Kinda scary if you ask me....

And, there are also numerous postings about how the tops are wearing - meaning - not a good thing. If you don't frequent MINI2 - at least check out the Convertible section. LOTS of good info. in there. I would take pictures of the wear issue - as it IS an issue on many of the Cabrios. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

Start documenting your issues. I have not seen any wear issues yet, but I'm keeping a close eye on things..

Shelly - good info. about that other shop. I'll definitely keep that in mind as Scooter is way out of warranty at this point. And it would be great to not have to pay Brecht's hourly charge if this other shop is a bit cheaper.

Here is the specific thread. Lots of reading - but worth it.
