best roads around vegas
I originally posted this in the Southwest forum, but nobody seems to be home. Surely some SoCal motorers know Vegas...

Greetings, Sin City Motorers,
I'm going to be in Vegas July 14-18 on business, and would like to explore the neighboring areas for some spirited motoring. Can anyone recommend a great day trip around Vegas, along with the necessary known speed traps.
Not that I will be breaking the speed limit or anything...
Thanks,
David

Having just moved from Vegas about 6 months ago after living there 14 years I can try to answer your question. You will be suprised that there are not that many great roads for driving around Vegas. The loop around Red Rock is nice, but it is usualy filled with so many RVs rent a cars full of tourists that it ruins the fun. You also have to watch out for the rangers because its a national park. To get there, just get on Charleston blvd and head west, you will run into it. Some of the roads around Mt. Charleston are nice, but again tourists and rangers, but they have a nice lodge up there where you can eat lunch and its usualy 20 degrees cooler too. To get to Mt. Charleston take I95 north until you see signs that say Mt. Charleston or ski area. Valley of fire is scenic but the roads arent necessarily inspiring. I guess if your in Vegas driving shouldnt really be your main entertainment. Go see the car collection at the Imperial Palace, its not huge but some very nice and rare cars. Feel free to email me if you have anymore questions.
