I have always wished that the hover lasted a few more seconds myself

When I switched from Safari to Firefox, the text in the popups got a lot shorter in length. I wonder if there's a way to have it display more of the text?

I'm wondering if what we're looking for are all browser settings?

The thread text is, but I'm not sure the timeout is. I just looked at the HTML of the forumdisplay.php results - the "id_threadtitle_xxxxx" text is easy to find, but no obvious indication of a timeout value.

It might be a browser setting after all. Hmmm...

I don't think its a browser setting. I did a google search and it seems the web masters can't change this default. Sounds like it might be an OS default.

I'll do a little more searching for a reg entry for it.

I don't know about the time issue, but there is an unsupported patch for Firefox to make show much more of a popup. I've been using it for several months with no problems.
Find it here

The amount of time the preview is displayed and the amount of text displayed is largely a function of the browser (often there are not settings to adjust for this unless you hack the browser). In the software settings I have configured to display up to 500 characters of the first post in the thread. In Safari I can see most, if not all, of the post when I hover over the topic. In Firefox I only see about 40 characters. If you use Firefox like I do I would recommend give the patch that Agro mentions a try.

Can't address IE7. I don't currently have a version of XP that will support the upgrade. Regardless I suspect that the behavior for the amount of text shown and the time the pop-up displays is hard-coded into the browser.

Thanks Mark. Any suggestions for a keyword to search for a setting in IE7? I am not sure exactly what you call the hover.

I have never seen any type of control like this exposed through any of the settings interfaces presented in IE. There may be a hack someone has made that would change its behavior but you would be effectively hacking the web browser. The terms you are likely looking for would be "title", "hover", "mouseover".

This is a modifcation for phpBB. NAM runs on top of vBulletin. I did look at the modification and what it does is change the title tag on a link to include a certain number of characters from the last past of the thread. This is similar to what vBulletin is doing on NAM. Regardless if you have a mod like this or not how the preview text is displayed, how long, etc. is really a function of the browser.
