A taboo post??????????

So I discussed a taboo thing or did I?

A. My post wasn't about looking for a race or advocating it.
it's just one of those things that happened. I didn't
post to brag about my driving. I posted to talk about how
my car was running and quick this little car is.

B. I thought this is the place to discuss all things MINI.
If one can't share with my MINI brothers where does one go.
It's like having a one-night-stand. What's worth if you
can't talk about it.

C. I'm sorry, I haven't met a guy at one time or another
that hasn't gotten on their car. No matter what they drive.

D. With all these people spending spending their rent money
on mods to go 55. Who's the pot calling the kettel black.
Please tell me you guys aren't flexing a little muscle from
time to time.

E. If you all are as cool and easy going, as all (try to) come
across, when somone does something that isn't within the
rules instead of throwing gabs, be cool and mature give the
person the benefit of the dout. One reply should suffice that
this really isn't the forum to discuss that type of subject
matter. And be done with it.
(his name says it all...jimz68, what the hell is that?)

I stated my piece.

Most people take their cars to the track or they autocross. It is a much safer way to push a car closer to the limit.

NAM forbids any mention of street racing and for good reason.

Hey. I rememner your post from last night. While we may exceed the limit from time to time, the rules on this site state that you cannot talk about it. We don;t want the MINI comunity to get the same stigma as the ricer comunity. One way to avoid this would be to act mature and not post kill stories.

I'm sorry if we came off as curt with you after your post, but we see a post like it every day. It gets very old. Yes. I know the MINI is fast. I don't really care how how you beat a honda or whatever in it. If you want thrills, go to the track. You don't have to watch your rear view mirror for the flashing lights when you do that.

Posting about street racing and excessive speed on public roads has been prohibited by the site guidelines for the past thee years or so.

We don't strictly define what excessive speed is, but considering the maximum legal speed limit in the U.S. is 75 MPH and allowing for 5-10 over that most people do, it would be VERY safe to assume that anything approaching 100 mph on public roads (or that private track in your backyard ) is going to be considered excessive and going to be locked or edited at moderator discretion.

I once posted a story that David shut down, as he has the right to do in his role as Moderator. He duly PMd me to that effect and I accepted the decision. We all moved on. Oddly, there was a subsequent thread that was not shut down, that went many pages, about street racing. I think the difference was that the acceptable thread was discussing how we view street racing, what we do in such circumstances (ignore the challenge mostly), and how we find alternative venues for driving our highly/slightly modified cars in safe, controlled environments where going fast (and maybe beating other people/cars) is the objective. I think what this reveals is a willingness of this community to discuss the issue, but not personalize it, or glorify it. Maybe that's what the original poster failed to appreciate.

cheers, phil

I get what you guys are saying.
But the point is missed here.

My post wasn't about I went with racer x.
It was about a driving experiance I had the
other night. And this is what this is about
sharing an experiance.

I look at it as the same as when I posted
about losing my fisrt Mini to a flood

or when I did my first cosmetic mod myself
and gave all the details of my story.

We share stories to grow to learn what's
good and what's bad.

And like I stated you don't have to be curt
or state "hey bud, hey pal you are inmature
if you want to race a a tuner or whatever
go somewhere else" The mature route would
have been for one, and just one reply...
hey studog, we only discuss racing on
the track. Cool. Check out the posting rules.

That's end of story.

But what the real problem is eveyone thinks
they are above that person so they have
to give their 2¢ to feel they are superior.

Have a little more empathy

Well,

the standards are someone fuzzy. Maybe next time, don't be so explicit, then there's no rope to hang you with, so to speak....

I didn't read you post, so I don't know how blatent the story was. But for sure, the moderators have good days and bad days.... but what can you say, you're not charged much for the use of the forums....

And I would say don't come to NAM thinking it's a democracy......think of it as somewhat of a benevolent dictatorship.

Hey, don't rope me into this.
There are several owner's who happen to own MINIs. They might even live in your town.

On the contrary, when you establish a user name and start posting, you should probably check out the posting rules then. Pretty plain and simple, IMO.

you posted about racing some tool on the highway and backing off when you hit 105...then ask what other people felt safe on the highway speeding...

if that isn't "Posting about street racing and excessive speed on public roads"

then stealing a car must be legal...

Hey... I got many of my threads shut down and I too was pretty upset as these threads were posted back in 2002!

Just house rules that these guys have to upkeep. Kinda like like momma not letting you use her kitchen towels to wipe your hands after an oil change. It's the rule and it's their house!

Check out www.miniaddiction.co.uk we talk about all sorts of stuff inlcuding fast driving but again it ain't worth it especially in the USA where the majority of drivers are not very capable of handling a performance vehicle at high speeds and many of the American vehicles are just not built with the handling capability of a Mini (SUV's). I was fined well over $1000 for my last little stunt on a public highway in the USA. The police officer was pretty cool about it but he explained that other drivers just are not capable to understand the rules and the way a car reacts at speed, they also don't use proper lanes to pass and they pull out without looking. He is right!

Take the money you are risking on that HUGE speeding ticket, come to Europe rent a CooperS or Porsche and drive to your hearts content. BUT... Make sure you don't drive beyond your own capability.

Best Regards & Intentions.

Kesh

Without reading the OP's thread...I can't really make a comment on it. I tried to talk politics on the forum once...you can imagine how that turned out

to the mods to sticking to their guns. I understand that sometimes it can be frustrating when your thread falls into the gray area and while you don't think it should have been closed, it gets closed, but at the end of the day we get a lot of info/news/pics/vids/tips etc. from this site, and if one of my threads ends up in that gray zone and gets shut down...perhaps I might talk with the mods, then perhaps re-post within the guidelines

Whoa! What happened? I'd think at that level you'd get a complimentary set of matching bracelets too!

Or is that one of those "can't talk about it" topics?

Dude ... I didn't read your story but you got caught, got your wrist slapped ... move on and learn from it.

If other ppl jumped all over it ... maybe its because ppl get TIRED of hearing about excessive speed exploits on public highways ... it gets REAL old after about the third story. I dont think they are trying to be superior but rather reinforcing the point.

Empathy??? Empathy means "been there done that". Maybe the posters Havent got any empathy because they haven't done ... whatever it was you did?

I'd let it go and move on. Peace

I'm not scorned that my post was locked, So what.
It's actually funny. What gets me is the bone head
comments that followed. That's what is immature.
The lame attempts at being cute or snide is what's
immature. Correlating the subject matter to someone name
that's immature. Hell most of the names on any user
board are bad. Also my comment to jimz68 wasn't to
his name it was his comment to my name.
(jimz68, thanks for the apology) and
(pay attention chrisneal to what your reading)

Again point is noted by what to and what not to discuss
and what my original post was about.

But the continuing debate isn't about that and the fact
is that most of you are missing what I'm getting at
doesn't surprise me.

The point I am trying to make is that if someone posts
something that's gray you don't have to jump down on that
person. Either lock it out. Or just ignore it.

That's it. That's all that's needed.

Getting back to the root of all this.
I'm not advocating this or bragging or even saying
it wasn't/isn't stupid but denying that many of
you haven't broken the 3 digit barrier on the street
or on express way would be utter F-ing-BS.

Enough said.

Motor On.

C. I have it was at the track

D.The mods make the difference at the track and autocross courses also some help MPG and longevity of the car, or make things safer all around.

Also you need to understand posting on NAM, like driving is a privilege if you want to do it, then there are rules to follow; if you want to break them then that is your call and you can find another board to post on.

Have a little more empathy
You were shown the rules when you signed up, same as everybody else here, if 23,000 people can exercise the judgment to follow them don't expect us to embrace those who openly violate them. Especially when stories and those actions in the first place reflect poorly upon the whole community. If it is maturity you are looking for then perhaps you should have the courtesy to follow the rules and get to know the people on NAM a little bit better first.
