With freedom comes responsibilities; the first without the second is called anarachy.
In a very real sense, we are invited to this site, if we can't follow a few simple rules designed to make it a place people want to be, then being invited to leave seems to be an appropriate response.

maxx629 could not have said it better. I haven't paid one penny to use this site, so what basis could I possibly have to complain about anything. If ever I don't like what's going on within NAM, I always have the option to go elsewhere. And anybody that thinks they should get to use something for free, and then get to complain about it ad infinitum ... is living in Neverneverland.

NAM is a free forum which allows anyone to become a member and post according to a set of guidelines which you must agree upon when you sign up. It is a privilege to post on this site and if you push the limit, it seems very reasonable that you get banned. If you go into a retail store and cause trouble, they can make you leave. NAM is similar in a way except that it is online and you get banned instead of getting asked to leave. It's as simple as that.

Just for entertainment...I'd like to point out that after spending a few months researching each and every coilover that I could find for a custom suspension I'm working on....and talking with and searching through the Asian MINI tuners sites.......I'd like to point out that the person who originally started that thread was actually mistaken about the original manufacturer of the coilovers (not that it changes the continent of origin).......I just found that funny and had a laugh when I found it Gotta love when the vendor is sharing misleading/incorrect information....at the same time that their critics are sharing misleading/incorrect information

Why do I bring this up? I'm not trying to stand up for any of the vendors....I think some of them really need to rethink their strategies and make the necessary changes....but at the same time, I think the 'critics' need to rethink their strategies as well and re-evaluate their "information" before spreading it. Both sides need to step back and take a look at things...

I just love how we continue to beat this horse. There are discussions on the many of this points in the the Site Feedback (where I've moved this thread).

If you have proof of an unsafe product then write it up and post it. If they are terrible products what does that really mean? Terrible for your needs versus someone else's? As for stats I've seen every vendor in every automotive market post different results for their products and there are those that I trust more than others. What constitutes lying about stats? Do you just need third party confirmation of numbers?

When I used to manage vendors directly it was my goal to guide them when they got out of step, got negative feedback, etc. in order to help them improve. Some of those vendors took that advance and some didn't (some of these are now gone). You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. This is the same case here. If they don't take the advice they get the beat down in the way of reviews and public opinion. If there are sufficient problems the account management team at Internet Brands will step in and speak to the vendor directly to either get the issues resolved or get them off the site.

As for banning there has only been one user banned recently and that was for a week long vacation (Rustyboy155). If he returns and continues to post harass people in the same way he'll be removed permanently.

As for free speech....I'm a big believer in it but its a right that has expectations and responsibilities associated with it. You don't go into the security line at an airport and start talking about bombs. Obviously you could and you would be hauled off. Same in an particular social situation...there are expectations (laws in some cases) of what is acceptable and what is not. The same follows here on NAM and what the site guidelines were put in place for. In other words you can express your feelings however you want but it better be civil, not get personal, etc.

Its a free country. If you don't feel this is fair then you can always start your own forum and put whatever guidelines you want in place.

Mark

i understand that this kinda thing has happened before and can be necessary from time to time. I have no choice but agree with revray but for me NAM has always been a place to get grind your face to the street real info. I grew up a little lately in realizing that vendors pay the NAM bills and possibly you may not be able to get honest info here.

Make sure you understand that i am not bashing NAM and telling people not come here, im just venting on my realizing that "santa isnt real" scenerio that someone that gave honest and for the most part helpful info was booted. Im confident he wont loose any sleep over the issue, and NAM will keep on chugging right along but you have to agree that there is a problem here under the surface.

It's like being told that santa isn't real by the easter bunny. As I pointed out in my earlier post....sometimes regular members are wrong/untruthful/misinformed just like some of the vendors. Heck....just look at some of the things Rusty posted half the time....he had lots of helpful things to post I'm sure, but sometimes he'd post things about a vendor that just weren't true (such as: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hlight=gintani ).

As I said....just as you should question the honesty behind vendor's claims....you should question the honesty/validity behind regular members' claims.

I just want to say that people are not arbitrarily banned unless they are a spammer or troll. The recent bans were people that had been warned numerous times. You will never just disapear off NAM for something you said. The mods give you plenty of chances to correct missteps. I know several recent bans were people that challenged the authority and consistently showed disrespect to the community and those that uphold it. In fact if you vist their discussion forum they brag about this. There is always much more to the story. You see the final action of months of disciplinary actions. Vendors pay a fee to support the community and offer goods of interest to members. It doesn't give us the right to do anything unethical. NAM gives us a place to market products and that's about it. Some vendors incorrectly believe that because they pay NAM a fee that NAM should protect them from haters. Just my 2cents as a NAM vendor, moderator, and member since 2003.

Gotta agree with Mark; this horse is dead. Let's just bury it. The internet is vast; don't like what you see, you can always find something that suits your views a little more closely. Can't find what you like, make your own.
Me, I like it here, and I like the standards Mark has set and enforces. 'Nuff said.

's ok. The horse doesn't seem to mind. Or even notice.

I like Rusty, enjoy his posts and have found him helpful to many others on NAM. I was not being sarcastic and there was no need for you to post what you did. Out of Line. If you have an issue with me I welcome your PM or email. Good Evening Sir, Dustin
