R60 Brembo JCW "GP2X" 6-Piston BBK - Calipers/Rotors Big Brake Upgrade

Category: Brakes
Price: $2450
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (you may select multiples): R60
Location (Region): Midwestern
Item Condition: Used

A while back, we busted out a custom F60 BBK for my boy. Deets HERE. Since then I’ve been prompted to work on one for an R60 owner that would be a bit more OEM in style. What is more OEM than the kit that Mini SHOULD have issued for the R60 in the first place? Sometimes you just have to do the job yourself. That is, make the "GP2X” big brake kit, of course …

Application:
  • R60 Countryman (’11-‘16) – 5x120 lug, 79mm CB

Front:
  • Calipers: OEM GP2/135i units - REFINISHED - OEM motif: Mold seams shaved, artwork is painted on using catalyzed urethane.
  • Rotors: 2 x Centric High Carbon 125 Series 350 x 25mm - NEW - Dimpled in Brembo 32-row pattern
  • Pads: 1 x Powerstop Z16 Evolution - NEW - Ceramic, low dust
  • Brackets: Custom worked for the 350mm rotors and R60 spindle.

Rear:
  • Calipers: OEM JCW units - REFINISHED - OEM motif: Custom vanity plate recessed and adhered (epoxy) with the artwork painted on (wet on wet for a chemical bond). Brackets: texture ground off the face and coated in a contrasting matte black.
  • Rotors: 2 x Centric High Carbon 125 Series 296 x 10mm - NEW - Dimpled in matching Brembo 32-row pattern
  • Pads: 1 x Powerstop Z16 Evolution - NEW - Ceramic, low dust

Notes:
  1. Selling as complete package only – This is the only one if its kind.
  2. Make sure your wheels will clear the front 6-piston units. Dust shields may need trimmed or removed to fit the massive front binders. You can use the GP2 template by matching up the OD’s of the two center bores.
  3. GP2 TEMPLATE
  4. Accessory items like lines, sensors, and fluids are not pictured or provided.
  5. **Ensure that your installer (if you're not a wrench) will install aftermarket parts.**

Yeah, this was a fun little project. Despite not owning an R60, I've always been bothered that red paint was nearly all that separates the JCW brakes from the base model. Add that this chassis is a bit taller/heavier, and that the JCW wheels are 19", and next thing I know there were 350mm rings in my shopping cart.

In my mind, every R60 should look like this ...

Incidentally, these have been moved to Ebay.

Again, I appreciate the compliments. I have some ideas in the pipeline. I just have a few gaps to bridge before I get started.

For anyone thinking about a kit like this, make sure you have around 2.5" between the back of your spokes and the outside rotor face. That means either running spacers or getting some big boy wheels mounted up.

Yeap. They share the same spindles, so the same caveats would apply as well.

They were. Until you had me ship them to Vermont. I just needed a good reason to finally finish this set.
