I replaced the front upper strut mounts on my 05 MCS last week and now the front right one is making unsettling rubber noises. When stopped or driving slowly, as I turn the wheel, it sounds as if the rubber strut mount is binding, winding up like a spring, and then suddenly slipping. It seems as if instead of rotating freely the rubber mount is getting hung up on something. There seems to be extra resistance or spring back in the steering wheel too. I don't hear the same problem coming from the driver's side...just the passenger side. I did buy the strut mounts from Orielley's Auto parts because it was affordable and I needed to get the job done that night. They were only $36 each. Should I have bought higher quality ones? Any thoughts on if I bought the wrong ones or installed them wrong?
When I open the hood and look down on them, they seem to have stretched up quite a bit. I wonder if they are too soft for the job.
Hmmm.... Mine were MasterPro brand...which were actually cheaper than the Moog's that you don't recommend. It looks like I should have spent a little extra. Thanks for the advice.
