The rest of the kit is almost done randy got the rear ones on his car and it looks totaly FAB....
We will have finished units available very soon (3-4 weeks).

All this R&D is very time consuming, and with many new and incredibly exciting
products in the schute, in the next comming months.

Use galvanized chicken wire instead. It's about $3.00 for a 25ft roll and looks just as good. Another $5.00 and you can paint it black.

 

M7, do you have any online install guides? Also the pictures seem to show the silver grill to have much thicker wire than the black one. With the black one, you can see the radiator very clear. Is this the case or is it just from the photo.

 

Yes 22004 chicken wire does work if you want it to look like a chicken wire
front grill, please post pictures of this $3 part when your done with it :smile:

The silver and black is identical.

I installed a silver M7 grill a month ago. Directions come with the product and
even though I'm not exactly a handyman I was able to do the installation myself. It's a fabulous product, powder coated steel which is much more elegant and sturdy than the stock grill. Silver goes especially well with my dark silver body color. I like the look and it really sets it apart from other Mini's.

Do these come with a hole for the tow-hook? If so, could you someone post an upclose picture.

MSFITTOY I noticed you have your tow hook installed with the grill, do you have an upclose pic of your grill at the tow-hook site?

 

I don't have an image but after you install the grill, just look straight on into the hole. You can then mark the area that needs to removed. I used a dremel cutter disk and trimmed the mesh out at the intersections. It's a two minute job. Then use some gloss Rustoleum for touch up.

Just intalled a Christmas present from my wife. Fit and finish are spectacular.
Special thanks to ONASLED and Peter @ M7 for some additional instructions on how to take the bumper cover off.

It would truely be the Ultimate grill if it had a place for the outside temperature probe and a pre-cut finished hole for the front tow hook.

 

I've had mine for a little over a year now... Still lookin' good! I think M7 is contemplating matching grilles for other parts of the car - front and rear. That would be cool.

I just zip-tied the outdoor temp probe to the bumper...

 

We now have the rear lower grills available in silver and black. We do not have them listed on the site yet but they are available for $135 for the set. I am posting a quick photo i took at a recent show and will put some better ones up in the next day or so. They are the same material and construction as our front grills to give you some idea of the product look.

Randy, I believe the stock rears are totally plugged. With these grills, what becomes visible when they are installed? The front grill exposes some cool stuff...

Also, any chance of getting upper front grilles?

 

What is behind the stock grill is a type of heat insulation material. It looks a lot like tinfoil. I sprayed mine black with a can of rustoleium black to make it less noticable. We have the protoypes done for the front grill and I have them on my car. After we get the AGS done we will get back on that project.

Ah, yes, now I remember. It's a dimpled-like aluminum that is easily shaped or molded. Memories from my exhaust & battery re-location project .

Painting it sounds good.

The front grills look great!

Looks like you took-out your fog lights and elongated the opennings, and put grill material there as well. The fog lights are not that useful anyway, I feel. Are you routing the air from the enlarged opennings anywhere, like to the brakes?

As far as the rear grills go, I did this. I actually cut away the heat shield (the tin foil you are talking about) and shaped it so that the underbody air flow was able to go out these rear vents. An easier job if you have an aftermarket exhaust. Now if you look into the vent you can see my SS Miltek mufflers and my Alta control arms and even the blue Hsport springs. Nice look I think plus you are actually serving the purpose of the vents which is to help remove any air pressure from under and behind the car.



What I did for my front was to carefully cut away a hole for the tow hook. I cut the hole big enough to insert a home made trim piece. This is the blue that you see in the photo below. It was a polly bushing from my old FJ40 that I drilled out a bit so the tow hook would fit snug and then cut shorter to fit the space between the grill and the bumper. Just attached with RTV silicone.

I also just tie wrapped the temp probe to the grill.

This was a home made job from some eBay aluminum material I got for $10. Gage is a little light I think and I will most certainly do it over so it looks better with some heavier gage stuff. I found some great grill material at Auto Zone, but almost $40 for the same amount that I got of eBay, though it was a bit better looking.

I had a couple of FJ40's, and sold my last one to my neighbor up to road from me... so I still get to see it on occassion . I bought a dune buggy with it, and now I'm selling that after a few years... The MINI is a fixture though!

If you can post a photo of the rears (grills), and the view on the control arms, that would be awesome! Thanks.

 

My dream front grill would be just like this, but with some sort of trim around the outside. Basically, a metal version of the aero kit grill. I don't suppose it's possible to put the original chrome grim trim back on over your mesh is it?

(Not sure how that would look, I'm just thinking out loud)

I'm thinking the silver grill will look very nice on my DS/DS with chrome mirror caps and big chrome PIAA 520s.

I'll be replacing the mesh this week with better quality. This mesh in the photo was cheep and was to test if I liked the color. I'm sticking with the same aluminum finish but a better install now that I'm committed.

Looking forward to installing more M7 grills. With the AGS coming, and the installation of some driving lights, and a "deer warner", I'd like to do all at the same time, ideally.
