That was considered an extension of the factory and per him it was legal for stock class.

That would make the JCW drilled brakes legal for stock use!!

I just can't believe Doug would make an open ended statement like that. Everything I have ever heard from him states it must be installed at the factory. The darn cup holder being the only exception because you can't get one delivered without one. All other options that you have a choice of receiving must be installed at the factory. See my earlier quote from him.

In the past, what *optional* equipment has been installed at the VDC? I always thought that the VDC only installed parts that were common to all U.S. MINIs, like the cupholder, while all of the optional equipment was installed either at the factory or at the dealer.

Doug has been known to be wrong. Anything he says is informed, but unofficial. He may be refering to the ruling made for the WRX for port installed options that show up on the window sticker.

If you went through the configurator for 02 to 06 it is very clear that the aero kit and the individual JCW items are dealer installed accessories. You even had to click OK (regarding dealer install and pricing) to continue selecting them.

I can't believe this thread is still alive.

I wish I could remove the cupholder and just keep it in the car for National events. Techincally it's not removed, but just detatched.

Sincerely,
Hates that Bass Boat Cupholder.

I think you'd be fine with that idea. If someone wanted to protest you for the cup holder, they could, but they would look really stupid IMHO.
