D Stock Confirmed! Cooper S does NOT fuel starve!
Well, I've said it before with close to empty at an autocross, but this past weekend was just flat out crazy since it was a "Test and Tune".
After my wife finished driving, the needle was just sitting on the line. I had four runs to take, so I knew it would be interesting.
By the last run, the needle was completely below the line, and it NEVER fuel starved. As a matter of fact, it actually had trouble starting on the hill before the 3rd run, but didn't fuel starve on the 3rd or 4th runs.
BTW, this was a HEAVY transition course.

So did you fill er' up afterwards and if so, how much did it take?

I put 13.6 in the tank once on a long trip. The gauge was well below the red line and the trip computer stopped saying zero range 10 miles before I filled up... after zero it goes to "---"
I've autocrossed withe the range reading zero and never had fuel starve. A friend ran his "S" all the way empty on course. The first hint something was wrong was when the engine cut out...

I am glad I am not the only moron who has tread this perilous path and still come up roses. My MA even warned me to not use the miles left as an actual guage, or I could run out while it said I still had miles left. He was so wrong. Still haven't run out of fuel despite scaring myself several times, mostly on road trips where gas stations are far between.
From my experience.. 48,000 miles, the range gets further off the longer you go before running the tank nearly empty. It's like the computer forgets where the bottom of the tank is. This has only occured in my benefit (more gas left than indicated) Several times the range has said less than 10 miles and I have only been able to put in 12.5 gallons.
For those worring about the "Never run your tank empty" rule. That only applies if you never let it get below a 1/4 and then after several years run it empty. I go weeks with never more than a 1/4 tank. Gotta keep that weight down for autocross
I only fill the tank if I know I will burn though it before the next race.

and when it comes to people's fear of sucking up a bunch of sediment if they run their tank empty, that is just plain nuts.
Every gas-tank sucks fuel from the bottom of the tank all the time, and while driving, you are agitating the fuel and the dreaded (mostly non-existant) sediment is always being sucked into the fuel filter.
I consider it a good thing to run it close to empty at every opportunity I get.
I have had the computer say that I had 3 miles until empty.
