225/45/16 or 225/50/16? A048's

I'm pulling the awful Azenis off my new (to me) SSR Comps. I just sold 15" TDR's with 205/50/15 A048's and they were wonderful. I'm going to run another set in 16" size...the wheels are 16x7.5 ET43.

The 225/45 is a no-brainer but Tire Rack has the 225/50 on sale even lower at $600/set instead of $800. It's a half inch taller than stock. I had 215/45/17 RE01R's on the same width and offset and no issues. The taller A048's are marginally a larger OD.

Thoughts?

Saving $200 on a difference you wouldn't even notice (225/45 vs 225/50). I'd say it's a good deal. But the A048s have different compounds. Might wanna make sure it's the compound you want.

both M and MH are at that price. It's more of a figment question. Some searches on the larger size show clearance issues in the rear

Well, I have 225/50 BFG R1's and I don't have any problems with fitment, front or rear. But by TireRack, the R1's are slightly smaller.

My friend has the A048s and has no problems, but I'm not sure if he has the 45 or 50.

I went ahead and got the 225/45. I'd prefer no issues, though I am still prepared to put some 3mm spacers on if needed to clear my Cross suspension (it's already a bit snug with 215/40/16)

I think the different diameter would only be an issue for autocross.. And then it's whether you'd want the shorter / taller gearing. But I'm a cheapskate and definitely would have saved the $200 either way..
