hey all -

i've finally grown tired of driving around with the ACC on full blast all summer long - which i should have expected after buying JB/JB. so now it's time to bite the bullet and get my windows tinted. it's been many years since i've purchased tinting - what's out there now? i've heard that 3M (?) has a "no fade" tint now, but i could be wrong.

can anyone provide some tips, recommendations, and maybe sample pics of their Denver area tints?

oh, and what's the legal limit in CO?

thanks!

I guess it kind of depends where you live in town as where to go to get the tinting done. I went to IDS South on Broadway (north of County Line Rd) Talk to Howard? Braun 303-730-1019. Uses the 3-M products in additon to others, but they prefer the 3-M film. They mostly do dealer car tinting and wraps. They do all Murry Mercedes work and over flow work from a lot of other dealers. They have done work for schomp too. They were wraping a lamborgini at the time they did my MINI. They know the legal limit for CO. Their price was much much lower than the dealer option price when I bought my MINI. You do have to wait for an appointment, but I consider that good recommendation.

My MC came tinted from the dealer. I have had other cars recently tinted with good results from SunFree Window Tinting. There is a store at 88th and Wadsworth. I believe legal max is 35%...which is the darkest they will go. There are other shops in the metro area that will go darker, but you are less likely to have a good warranty with them. SunFree gives lifetime fade, bubbling, etc warranty....and they have stores across the country. I have gotten 2 cars tinted by them, a Passat and an Audi, and they did a great job, and fairly well priced...about $235 per car, and only took about 3 hours each.

I guess it all depends on how dark you want to go, but most tint films today are made to be UV fade resistant.

best of luck

I recently talked to Don at "The Bra Man." He seemed really cool, and super knowledgeable (been doing tint, clear bra and vinyl applications for over 12 years).

He is in Morrison. The price he quoted me for the tinting was $250.

And he has done about a dozen MINIs.

just one more thing ..... check the installation carefully. Schomp had the windows tinted before I got my MC. After I had it for about a year, I noticed that there was a slight ripple on the edge of the film that was wearing a groove into the rubber door seal. Schomp repaired the tint and replaced the seal.
