Another MINI B-Spec Racer Announced

B-Spec: Fast Toys’ B-Spec MINI | turn17

Late last year, MINI of Charleston announced that MINI would be officially campaigning and selling kits to race in the fledgling “B-Spec” racing class.

When the Pirelli World Challenge announced a series of B-Spec races and Grand Am followed suit with the “Sportsman Showcase” series, B-Spec went mainstream, and Bruce Hollander of Fast Toys, Inc. saw the perfect opportunity.

As a serial MINI owner and experienced driver, to say the least, Bruce saw the B-Spec production car class as an opening to drive a MINI in a race organized by one of the largest sanctioning bodies in the US, Grand Am.

Meant to be a “production car” class with costs relatively within reach for privateers, the B-Spec series will pit lightly-modified MINI Coopers against other B-class cars like the Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500, Honda Fit, Kia Rio, and Mazda2.

It’s no surprise that Bruce chose to campaign a MINI Cooper, considering he’s owned and raced multiple MINIs before this, including an early R53, the code name for the first generation of supercharged MINI Cooper S’s that first hit our shores in 2002, 10 years ago today!

More important even than Bruce’s experience with MINI Coopers is his extensive race experience and success. Among numerous other racing accomplishments, Bruce is a four-time SCCA Southeast Division class champion, a class winner at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix, and a ‘Lifetime’ instructor for the Porsche Club of America.

In addition to the inaugural “Sportsman Showcase” Grand Am race at the Miami Grand Prix this April, Bruce intends to compete in both SCCA and NASA road race classes at tracks in the Southeast, and is looking forward to putting his 2011 MINI Cooper on the podium many times in 2012.

If you want to know more about Bruce and his B-Spec MINI or follow it’s progress with frequent updates and live posting from the race track, follow Fast Toys and Turn17* on Facebook, or try the contact information and websites below:

Turn17 is my site, BTW, so I'm excited to be working with Bruce! At the very least, I plan to be at the race at Homestead to live blog the race. Definitely come by and say hi if any of you make it out to the race!
