Canyon Motorsports U.ST.C.C. race report
USTCC 1st race 3/8-9/2008.
Canyon Motorsports race report from Thunderhill
We are extremely pleased to have qualified second on pole, among such fierce competition!
General Motors has a new factory team running a Chevy Cobalt SS this year & we beat them & everyone else but last years champion Curt Simmons in the Dodge SRT-4
in qualifying with our small privater Canyon Motorsports MINI team.
In the main race on Sunday I was able to hold onto my second place starting position for 4 laps, until the Dodge SRT-4 hit his brakes at the apex of turn 8, which killed my run up the hill to turn 9 & the Honda in the #3 position took the opportunity to come allong on inside the entry of turn nine which put me to the outside on the exit of the corner where he & two other cars pulled the freight train move on Me.
In the next lap the Honda crashed going up the same hill from turn 8 & I pass one other car to finish fourth O.A. under a full coarse yellow that turned into a full course RED flag to allow the emergency teams to rescue another H1 Honda that rolled to the outside infield of turn 5b.
My crew chief Dan was on the radio with Me & we praying for a restart after they cleaned up the mess on the track, but the restart never came.
If there had been a restart from the yellow that we had hoped for, we could have pushed the Dodge hard for the third place podium finish.
The restart never happened because of the extent of the rolled Honda drivers injuries. Our little #4 MINI could only finish forth overall this time.
We are also very pleased our new MoTeC engine management system worked flawlessly!No more "limp mode" YEAH!
Oh well we'll go gettem next month 4/12/08 at Infinion/Sears Point!

The other MINI is Jerry Bradbury AKA Siddhartha. This was his first race. He did well, passed one guy and was hanging with the pack until a cauition and red flag stopped the race early.
