Second place finish for Octane MINI at Mosport – Bad luck strikes during second race
August 11-12 marked the first event after the mid-season break for competitors racing in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship. The event was organised by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) at Mosport International Raceway.
Octane Motorsport driver, Alain Lauziere brought his bright Orange MINI with sponsorship by Birchmount Collision to Bowmanville Ontario sitting in first place in the Touring class. As a result of past success, the #47 MINI Cooper had to carry 110 lbs of reward weight throughout the weekend.
The qualifying session appeared to prove that the weight penalties do indeed equalize the field as the top 3 competitors were within 6/10th of a second. The Octane MINI posted the fastest lap by a meagre 5/1000th of a second, the pole position giving an extra 5 points to Lauziere.
After a race that was filled with excitement where competitors from the upper ST class were part of the action, Lauziere managed a second place finish, where a challenge for the lead never materialized due to traffic.
On Sunday, what was supposed to be a tightly fought race was not meant to be for the MINI Cooper, as a broken supercharger belt forced a very slow crawl back to the pits from the second corner of the race. A quick change of the belt was performed, but not before the #47 was 3 laps down to the leaders. Lauziere charged back to the end of the race and was credited with a finishing position that would allow the team to remove 80 lbs of reward weight for the next race.
The next event for the team will be the Trois-Rivieres Grand-Prix on Aug. 18-19-20 where the Octane MINI will contest a round of the Quebec Hankook Touring Championship. Driver Lauziere will pull double-duty as he will also co-drive the RSR Motorsports MINI in the Koni Championship in Grand-Am during the same week-end.

I had headlight decals at the previous race. One got crushed with the cover with a close encounter with a large car. Re: see the "camera malfunction" in the video. (Calabogie links). The MINI won the encounter. But not before we had to replace the hood, headlight cover and bumper cover....
New challenges, and you are still delivering Alain. I assume you are still comfortably ahead in the points standings...
You car looks great also. I don't see the BK logo endorsement, but I suppose it's on the other side of your MINI...
The wing looks good also. Glad to hear that it actually works! Is the M7 wing?
