looking to buy used paceman, vin decode has "protected data"
hi, looking at a used paceman s all 4, every toy in the book, too good a price to be true
carfax says:
first info from puerto rico, then new jersey, then personal lease for a year, then auction then to local dealer
bmw vin decode says:
S8KLA
Ölwartungsintervall 15.000 km/12 Monate
S902A
Sonderkontrolle Pressefahrzeuge Special inspection press vehicles
Kein Zugriff - Geschuetzte Fahrzeugdaten
i think the first one is 15k kilo or 1 year for oil change, from what i've learned here, i'll be changing at half that, no problems there
special inspection press vehicle? from google, i read these are prepared to a better fit and finish for press use, what i'm scared of is the car has been beat to death.
the 3rd is the most interesting, it seems to mean protected (secret?) information, is there any way to find out what this is?
thanks
rod

Even your BMW-dealer does not have any access to that information. Only the BMW-develpment in center in Munich/Germany is able to read it.
In most cases that kind of "press cars" have e.g. special seats/not the same color als the serial cars.
But one thing could be very important. Press cars often do not have the same rust-proofing as the serial production. Perhaps you need a body cavity preservation to protect it.
In Germany it would be no problem to check the protected information. Ask your dealer to check it for you. Or you could try it. But be prepared to invest some time
