R61 What would you like changed in Paceman
#26
No regrets buying the Paceman because it’s fun to drive and I wanted the extra space, but with the same power to weight ratio as the MCS it would graduate from fun to a blast to drive.
Based on the ratio’s the Paceman S needs 208 HP to performance like a MCS and the JCW AWD needs 235 HP, Mini really needs an affordable performance upgrade kit for the S and lets face it, it’s all ECU programing to hit the 208 HP mark.

The easy way for BMW to fix this is to fit the 270hp version of the Prince engine which Peugeot use in the RCZ-R. The Cooper S could then graduate to the JCW engine.

That would be awesome, especially if the mileage stayed the same. I'm not entirely sure how the engine would last if boosted a bit more, but what I really want is a bit more torque down low.

There's a test in the latest EVO magazine between the Paceman, Audi TTS and Peugeot RCZ-R, the Paceman is well out of it's depth, it would probably have been more competitive had MINI given it an engine with more HP.
Peugeot thinks the Prince engine is ok with 270HP, I see no reason why MINI couldn't use this version, it would be the making of the car.
A 1.6 litre 4 with 270HP is pretty impressive in my opinion and unheard of not so long ago.

I agree on the first post of having the seats fold flat. Seems like it would have been an easy engineering problem when the car was originally designed.
One small thing really bugs me and that's the design of the parking brake handle. I know, not a show stopper but it's poor design reminds me every time I use it how frustrating it is. First, the 90 degree hand is poor ergonomics putting your wrist in an awkward and weak position when unlatching it. But the thing that really bugs me is the 90 degree handle basically wipes out a huge section of the center rail. Between the space the handle itself occupies and space for your fingers to grab it, the rails is close to useless. I would like to use the space for the accessories but cannot.
Curt.

Changes in Paceman
I'd like rear headrests that fold down like the 2014 hardtop. A longer driver's sun visor, since I'm short. A cup holder that doesn't make me keep the handle in the awkward position of being in front of the shifter. Rear seats that lay flat. Twin Turbo. The 2nd glove box like the Clubman and Hardtop.

I would like to have a drivers' side mirror that I can see out of properly. Unless I have the seat on the floor I am looking at the top of the wheel arch on the drivers' side. When I drive, I would like to sit upright like i'm in a chair not reclined. Oh well maybe I should just graduate to a true BMW.

However, the type of thing you mention has always been one of our complaints about Mini. The designers are far too willing to sacrifice ergonomics for "cool looking". There are times where I wonder if the designers have ever had to drive their creations on a daily basis!

I would like the headliner to be black in the pacemans, I also would like a different E brake the paceman e brake is kinda silly if u ask me and gets in the way of the passenger seat and seat belt among other things. Also I wish there wasn't so much dang chrome everywhere. And it should have at least 190hp
