Wheel Bearing Maybe?

Hello,

So back in early May I swapped my snow tires/wheels for my summer tires/wheels. The car then sat in the garage for six weeks while I saw away. When I returned it had a loud whining sound in the front end. It sounded like a bear bearing, but it was perfectly fine prior and had just been sitting. Also I had replaced all the wheel bearing less than maybe 10-12K miles ago. I though it may be a bad tire, although it did not sound like one, so I put the snows back on,no change, no big surprise. So now my question(s). Can a wheel bearing go bad just from sitting too long? Is there something else wrong that sound like a wheel bearing, that also can go bad just from sitting? Oh,.2014 PaceMan S 65K Miles

Thanks!
Jack

Yep, they can rust and one spot and the bearing can have one of the ball bearings get a ruff spot on it. I have had this happen with other cars.

The back of the bearing will rust over time and the seal that is on the back lets water and gunk in, once that happen the bearing starts to go.

Thanks for the response! Sorry it has taken me so long reply I've been away. What you said about rusting makes sense. This car sits a lot. Looks like another bearing replacement. So last time I believe I used a Timken.. What brand wheel bearing would you recommend?

Thanks!
Jack
