Question N18 Wastegate Flapper same as N14?

I need to replace the wastgate flapper on my R60 because it is floppy. I can find lots of kits for the N14 engine, will they work on the N18? If not, can you refer me to a kit that works on the R60?

I would take this opportunity to replace with a JCW turbo

If not for you, and you want to rebuild your own turbo, the turbine section of the turbo is the same between N14 and N18 engines.

Thanks Nik. I would consider that but I'm already overbudget on the current project. I wasn't planning on rebuilding the turbo, just replacing the flapper. Maybe I should consider rebuilding it while I've got it out though.

Any idea whether the flapper on the N18 is the same as the N14?

While you could just replace the flapper, the reason they go loose is because the shaft bearing in the turbine housing wears out. The only real way to fix it is to replace the turbine housing or full turbo. You can try to replace just the flapper, but it isn't just a "pull it out and swap it over" task.

Thanks Nik. My mechanic has replaced flapper valves on Audi's with good results. He did find that the N14 flapper kit is compatible with the N18 turbo.
