my turn for a coolant leak!
my turn for a coolant leak!
I guess my other post just didn't go through. bummer.
2011 S all4, 101k miles
Started leaking from passenger side. A couple days after it left the seep-streak in the driveway I finally had time to get the hoses out of the way for a look see. On the drivers side the thermostat housing side was bone dry, as was the coolant tank, as expected since the leak wasn't from that side.
Looked at where the water pipe comes in to the water pump, and while it did appear there were a couple crust coolant spot there, it definitely wasn't wet at all and could have just been from splash from earlier.
From what I can see, and by process of elimination, I'm guessing the seal on the water pump busted. When I fill the coolant tank, it produces a 1 drip per 2 seconds leak, from that area (again, the other usual suspect areas are still bone dry). I did not jack it up, take off the wheel and liner, so at this point I can't say it 100% is that.
Since I only had it a week, the small lot car dealer I got it from says to bring it in and they'll take care of it.
I might see if they'll do the serp belt while they're in there too, since they're already in there
I'll update once it's all done if that is what they also found.

It was the water pump. They did the water pipe as well. If the thermo goes I'll take care of that, it's not that hard to get to.
Had them do the batter too, they said it would hold a charge overnight, according to their charger.
But I'm wondering about a fan noise I hear after the car is off. It's not an engine fan, it's coming from the center console where the radio/nav is....time to go searching through the forum to see what I can find about that....or start a post!

That fan around the console is the Navigation or stereo Head unit fan, mine kicks on sometimes to cool things off. all normal.
Responded in that other thread.
