Exclamation ATTN DIY Spark Plug changers

I just wanted to post a tidbit that will hopefully not cost you what it has cost me. Our Countryman S has 47k miles and was recommended a spark plug change. After the dealer quoted me $240, I said no thanks and opted to do it myself. I purchased what were claimed to be the right plugs from Oreilly - Denso Iridium, even after doing some research here an other forums suggesting it would be a good alternative.

It wasn't.

The vehicle picked up a random misfire under stress (like fun driving) after the change. My mechanic couldn't figure it out. Tried replacing the coils, didn't help. Even cleaned the valve covers, didn't help. What did finally fix it (so far) is replacement with the exact brand of spark plug that mini uses.

Fortunately my mechanic took the coil pack back and didn't charge me for that but still out for a valve cleaning which maybe only sorta needed but probably could have lived without.

May you not make the same mistake - motor on!

For what it's worth, that is the same number on the Densoautoparts.com website.

On the densoglobal.com website they list IXUH22 which is one heat range cooler and probably different in other ways. It's also the same plug they list for the Cooper.

Yup, I replaced my 08 S spark plugs with NGK ones and they worked perfectly. I think they're the OEM supplier, not sure, but either way they're only $40 bucks for a 4-pack on eBay, takes 5 minutes to replace. Sorry you had to go through that trouble, but now you know! Thanks for sharing too

If it is an electric based part and a MINI, I always would stay with OEM. Sensors, plugs, etc. I might ease up on the cigarette lighter. The systems seem to be very finicky about having just the right feedback to the mother ship computer brain.

From: In the here and now, for now.
Something that hasn't been mentioned: Torque those plugs exactly to specs!!!
As suggested: OEM/NGK ONLY
There are many examples of 'experimenters' experiencing spark plug artillery on this very forum.
