That's a pretty freak occurrence.. Not only have I not had that happen to my CM, but I've never had that happen in any car I've owned.

I would be surprised if they didn't cover it under warranty considering there are no chips or cracks in it. Sounds like it was in there at an odd angle? Fitted improperly? too tight?

Whatever the case, I've had mine in Colorado for over 3 years now - While I have no cracks or significant chips, it does have the typical Colorado pitting that when you get it in the right sunlight, it looks like a dozen people sneezed on my windshield at the same time spraying it completely from top to bottom. That being said, I've never had any problems with mine and it's been here in Colorado at temperatures well below zero and in Les Vegas in the middle of August where it was well over 100 and I've never had any issues with it.

happened on my wifes r60. she claims it "came out of no where". took it to the dealership, the service manager ran a pen through it and found a nick in the crack. he said it was from a rock and refused to pay for it. said they only cover it if its a stress crack with no indications it could be from a rock

Mine cracked 16 hours of ownership. I waited 3 months for it. Kinda, took the steam out of my new car feeling

I picked up a rock off a gravel truck that decided to burn onto the freeway during morning rush hour out of a roadside construction site. Didn't think much of it at the time as I'd thought it hit the windshield wiper arm. Got to work, parked, and was treated to a four inch by five inch L-shaped crack from the bottom of the windscreen.

Turns out the rock hit about 1/4" above the bottom center of the glass. What I was surprised by was how quickly the crack progressed. I'd made an appointment with Safelite (which they had to redo after not sealing it properly, Mini of San Diego discovered this during a courtesy wash and were kind enough to point it out to me,) to have the replacement done about four days later. By that time, the crack ran more than nine inches laterally from the original starting position.

No other issues. I've cleaned my glass in the sun before without incident, but this is definitely giving me second thoughts about doing it when the temperatures are up.
