Intermittent radio issue

I'm having an issue with my 2013 Countryman (no MINI Connected, regular radio). Out of the blue, the radio was dark, no lights no clock in the display. Every now and then while driving it will come alive and work normal for a few minutes then power off again, no display no nothing. This is happening intermittently for the last couple days. Any ideas?

Hmmm... I know the original post is 2 yrs old but my radio has started doing exactly the same thing. Screen goes blank, continues to play and the screen comes back on. The AM reception has gone for ***** since this started happening but the FM still works fine. Any ideas whats happening other than the obvious?

Yes, I did discover the problem. I discovered that my kid had been sliding coins into the CD player slot, which was shorting out the radio unit. I had about 20 coins removed from inside the radio and the intermittent problems went away. Have kids?

Grrrr.... this is a frustrating issue. AM reception works fine for a few weeks then completely disappears for a few days.

LOL!!!!!! thats awesome!!!!!

mine does nothing like that, but it does have some odd things-
sometimes when i get in and start it it will do the MINI logo, soemtimes it wont, soemtimes it will be on maps where i usually leave it, soemtimes it will be on the home screen, sometimes my phone audio connects right away and starts playing, sometimes it wont connect at all even if i go into settings and reconnect everything.
i did notice that if there is a cd in the cd player I CAN NOT play audio from my phone at all- its like if the cd is in there its my only choice.

any of you have that issue?

Legit question as the thread deals with a radio issue. Perhaps someone will chime in that helps both of you.
