This is what my 2014 JCW sounded like, hopefully it won't sound like this anymore.

Yup, I couldn't believe it, my new 2014 JCW Countryman with only 2k miles on it had to have the timing chain tensioner replaced. The problem started when the temperature in the northeast dipped into the single digits to teens. My JCW engine would have a loud rattle noise that lasted for about 5 minutes or more. The noise was coming from under the hood, right side. Loudest near the right front wheel.

I took my JCW Mini to the dealer on a night drop. They started it in the morning and confirmed the noise. The dealer replaced the timing chain tensioner. I was told they had replaced the timing chain tensioner with the longer chain tensioner. Looking at my invoice the part number listed on the invoice is indeed the 82mm tensioner. I picked up my JCW early this morning, started the cold engine and it seems fixed. I didn't hear the loud rattle.

Before I picked up my JCW this morning I started up my wife's 2015 Roadster S to compare the engine sounds. I am pleased to say that the engine on my JCW and my wife's Roadater S now sounds the same. Temperature this morning was 20F. I will try it again tomorrow morning but I'm hopefull that the cold start engine rattle noise on my 2014 JCW has been resolved.

I just hope my JCW didn't have a stretched timing chain and that was why the dealer had to replace the chain tensioner with a longer tensioner just to take up the slack of the chain.
