Hi,

I have a problem with my week old Countryman S with automatic transmission and it has 134 Miles (got the Mini on 3-9-11). So when the car is in park, you can't put it in reverse until you press the brake pedal right... Well today, my car started making an audible loud noise from the gear selector when I press the brakes while it's in park. The noise is just a clicking noise coming from the shifter area, like the release or something is being loud. Then when I let off the brake, you can hear the release thing click again to lock it. Suggestions ?

 

Sounds like a relay / switch problem. Suggestion - though a PIA - is take it back for a service check.

We have a tendency to try to solve these problems our ownselves, but that does not alert MINI that there may be trouble in their supply chain. You and everyone will be helping the community if you take it in.

I took the car into the dealer and they told me that it is normal. We tried it on two different Countryman and they had the same sound. It is a clutch that releases the shifter in order to be put in gear. Automatic transmission only.

 

Yea, and that's what the docs told my Mom about me. We'll put this on the list of things to look for when I finally get mine.
