I pulled the trigger! Getting the same quad setup as Threar from VIP. Also ordered their intake and heat shield

I'm going to be busy playing in the garage over the next couple of weekends

Missed this question; sorry about that. I thought about it, and have since been thinking about other full-HID options, but for now I'm happy with the output. I do have Xenon's in there now, which I think makes it look even cooler.

I just watched some video of a WRC night stage. I think the adaptive xenon lights are excellent on my CM4, and they work well even on the twisty roads. I wondered why, beyond tradition, they mount about 4 very capable lights on the WRC cars for night work. Well, as the cars fly over the jumps and wind through the crowds lining parts of the route, they are hit with lots of bright photographic strobes. I'd want it bright as day to make sure I can still see the road ahead after passing through that gauntlet! Whew!

Totally worth it. As I said earlier in this thread I bought for looks - but they're actually really bright and fantastic when I'm driving on a dark road. They work in conjunction with my high beams - so I turn them on and off depending if cars are coming towards me. They really throw out the light though. I'm really glad I got them. Plus they're cute.

Having just returned from a road trip to southern Colorado, I can say that the lights are definitely worth it. Driving twisty mountain roads at night with adaptive and driving lights made seeing the road ahead so much easier. While I originally got them for looks, but absolutely functional. Still pricey though!

Question: - for those of you that have them - do you leave the plastic covers on or off most of the time? I love the way they look without the covers - but if it shortens their lifespan i.e. they break easily maybe I'll start putting them on more.

Thoughts?

I leave the covers on most of the time and only remove them if I'm going to be motoring at night. As susceptible as the windscreen is to pitting, I'm guessing that the driving light lenses are even more vulnerable being lower to the ground. I rather like the look of the white covers at the terminus of the white bonnet stripes.

On the IPF driving lights on my former 1st Gen MINI, I had clear plastic snap-on covers that could be left in place all of the time. That was nice.

^^The white does look good with your stripes. I think I may have to order a pair in black for my car. Dealer gave me white but I think the black would go with my grille better.

I leave the covers on. I like the way the white covers look, ( painted the lettering silver) and I know they will not be destroyed by the dumptrucks on the road.

Installed the driving/ spot lights a few days ago on our CMSD A4.
Pretty straight forward job, but it was a bit tricky to find the correct wire/ plug to tap into on the electronic box in the drivers side footwell. The no. 41 pin was in use and the color coding on the wire did not mach up with the manual.

I like this mod as I always felt the CM was a bit "naked" at the front end.
Also changed the H3 bulbs to Osram NightBreaker ones before i installed the lights.

One more thing: In Europe, The light kit does not come with light covers and they cannot even be ordered. The part number doies not exist in Europe :(
Anyone can put me in the right direction to an US web shop that ships internationally? Thanks!

Ohh. And here is manual if anyone needs it.
The manual is common for the 2nd gen minis, but has a few notes specifically for the R60

I got them installed! Thanks to Threar for sharing his pictures and installation information.

Yes, it's total plagiarism, but that gave me enough of a nudge to order and do the install!

VIP is sending me a longer wire so I can hook them to the fog lights instead of the brights, and then I will need to adjust them, but other than that, I'm done!

Do you or threar have any overheating at all?

With so much of the grill covered up I'm wondering if you will have a problem with overheating.

They sure do look great though.

Best HID lights for the front are Vision X HID's. Slim Mounted low wattage and the best bright light out there! Now for your on coming friends They will not give you love.. I used these on my Trophy truck for off road racing and only 3 gave me 30 mile visibility. Not bad for a $250.00 light!

I love the look of them:

Wish I could find these chrome light covers I saw (but now seem to be sold out) online.

Great job, beautiful looks! Have you been able to locate a web shop for ordering the light covers? What's the correct p/n for the black ones? I'm also located in Europe and have problems finding them.

I tried sending you a pm but got this warning:

When I was ordering my ALL4, I couldn't justify Xenons, let alone driving lights. I rarely drive on unlit roads at night and there were other options I'd rather get with the $$$. Sadly, I spend enough time in traffic that having the NAV system give me info about backups is a greater benefit than throwing more photons at pavement.

I like the look of the OEM units but the $750 price tag seemed ridiculous for Halogen driving lights. I passed knowing I'd figure something out aftermarket wise.
Instead I opted for the OEM Xenons w/ Blk housings(non adaptive) & then added my own Hella 500 fogs(not driving lights) w/ VIP brackets. I wired them to run w. my Low beams(switched). This way I can run independently of my factory fogs.
I'll keep the covers on until really needed. Use my factory fogs mostly, then remove covers & switch on Hella's when really needed. I recenly added Yellow bulbs as well.

*to keep the glass protected w/o the covers, you can use LaminX film. Its also avail in smoked or yellow.

They were done by Lyle at Vinyl Styles near San Francisco. Highly recommended if you're nearby. I think he sells those pre-wrapped if you are not, check his site.

Satin or Gloss Black

Did you remove them before he wrapped them or Lyle did?
