New Tires Needed

I have a 2012 Countryman (non S) that came with Pirelli RFs 205/55/R17. I do not want anymore RFs, can I replace with anything other than 205/55/17s? I don't need snow or performance tires, just some reliable and not too expensive tires. All suggestions are welcome!

I recommend Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06, 225/50-17. Same diameter and fit perfectly.

Thanks! Do all 225/50-17 tires fit?

Those Continental Extreme high performance tires might be overkill for a non-S Countryman and they dont sound like what you are looking for? What's important to you? Longevity? Good ride? Good handling? Dry/Wet? Price? Michelin Pilot Sport tires or Contintental Pure Contacts are less 'high performance', less expensive than the Extremes, offer a bit softer ride and will last a fair bit longer.

Just remember to carry a tire inflator and a jack with you if you're ditching the run flats.

My 2011 non-S is due for new tires next spring and i haven't minded the Pirelli run flats it came with. I might consider the Bridgestone Driveguard run flats when the time comes.

I did look at the Tire Rack site and others, the choices for 205/55-R17 91H were slim. That's why I wanted to know if 225/50-17 would work on a 2012 Countryman base model.
Sorry, I should have put what was important to me. Getting rid of RFs is at the top of the list. I think that alone will make for a smoother less noisy ride. Next would be longevity and price.

You should find a lot more tires listed if you don't select the H speed rating, or choose V or W instead.

225/50 and 205/55 are virtually the same circumference so the speedo will read near as dummit the same.

225mm width shouldn't be an issue for the wheel rim width, or fouling on wheel arches/inner arch components

I'm actually surprised how little choice tirerack actually list, irrespective of speed rating or run flat/non run flat.

All season tyre choice is limited in the UK, but selecting summer tyres on one of my popular tyre sites comes back with 86 results

Thanks Percymon. Glad I can pick from the 225/50-17 tires, definitely more to choose from.

One thing to watch for. I had to replace tires on an extended road trip and the only shop in that little town had 40's but no 45's. About 1/2 mile out of town the rotation warning went off. Figured it was the size difference and sure enough after about 5 miles, the computer figured it out and went back to sleep. So, if you get an error after getting the 50's, don't worry about it.
