Here's a video I posted. Love the dip and I'm thinking of doing it again. This is me removing 5-6 coats after 4 months. Whenever my wheels got to dirty I just sprayed them again to freshen up the look. I thought wheel balance would be an issue with so many coatings but it was surprising how light the peeled dip was when removed.

I went with the black wheels because it matched the black roof/mirror caps/bonnet stripes, as well as other parts such as the pillars and wheel arches that don't ship in any color other than black.

When I ordered my CM, this was a big topic of discussion. My salseperson insisted the CM look best with black or dark wheels. Every CM on the lot had black wheels. Every one on the road I saw had black wheels.. After hours on the Mini website configurator I concluded silver 18" turbo fans were best.

When the car got delivered it was the best looking one on the lot and my salesperson admitedly said... you were right it just "pops" with those wheels on it!

As a black-wheel guy myself, I have to say I like what you've done there, greenfire. Your whole setup looks very good.

It's a fad; I hate black wheels and will NEVER order them. New Mini brake compound causes very little dust on the wheels

Bumper bullets, big fat white walls. Now those are fads. Not sure about black wheels. It just represents another choice you can make, or not, as it were.

If its a fad, then I've been running with it for ten years. We all have our likes and dislikes. I like all of the MINI wheels except the tunnels, but plenty of others do. I won't call tunnels a fad, it's just different and a preference.

Looks like Henry Ford started this whole black wheel fad. "You can have any color as long as its black."

Why black wheels?-image-211714807.jpg
I guess that makes me and my black wheels old school!

imo nothing looks better on a car with a quality wheel, big red brakes behind them, and a lowered stance. it just makes the car look tough. and mini's need all the tough they can get. im trying to have mine look like a tank when im done

I watched a 3 hour documentary on H. Ford the other night. Talk about a strange, innovative man. Taught American culture to foreign workers, openly talked about how he thought jews were horrible. You couldn't get away with the stuff H. Ford was doing back then.

I ordered my Pepper White Roadster with black wheels. I got a set of ASA AR1 wheels for my winter tires that are black with a machined lip. I think I like those better than the solid black and might switch to them for my summer tires using the all black in the winter.

Whether it's a fad or not is debatable, but I just saw photos of the new red Stingray in AutoWeek and it has solid black wheels.

I like black, mr. likes white. So the dealer compromised with anthracite tunnel spokes which we both like.

(available at amazon and maybe your local parts store).

Spray it on, let it sit for 3-5 minutes and watch the color change to reddish purple as it dissolves the iron particles in the brake dust, hit it with a SOFT bristled brush with no exposed metal parts, and rinse.

a brush like this:

and/or this

and enjoy super clean wheels OF ANY COLOR with little effort.

Change...

Its not just Mini, Jeep, Subaru, etc are offering up different wheel "looks" now. I think people finally got bored of the standard metal alloy wheel look after what...10 or 15 yrs of nothing but the same old same old?

I agree! I bet if brands like Jeep offered different wheel/tire packages to purchase at the time of vehicle purchase, I bet lots of people (me) would JUMP on it.

Ok. So it's just me. Is it too much to ask to have my every tire whim catered to?

Just my humble opinion, but I think if you wanted a tough looking car, you picked the wrong brand!

It's a little known fact that black wheels make your car faster. Like stickers!

Kidding aside, my choice for the Anthracite wheels was based on the look (matched black top/mirror caps) and hiding dust. Nearly any other color can be combined with black wheels and or accents and it will look great.

Stickers can make the car faster.

If the sticker relates to a sponsor that pays for tires or performance modifications.

Did not get black because I did not want to deal with the damage done by rubbing a curb or something else with my nice black wheels, from what I am told it is pretty expensive to get them repainted or powder coated whichever the case may be (not researched that myself yet). Just me but this was a much bigger concern then brake dust, I wash the car more then I should anyway so I figure its just part of the cleaning...or fun, however you look at it.
