but, since you asked for opinions, some of my favorites:

California duster-fantastic for getting the dust off between washes....then..
QD(quick detail spray)-Crystal Mist from Pinnacle-incredible stuff for wiping down the car after a drive, and contains Souveran wax. Really makes the finish look like I just put a coat of Souveran on.....
Glass care-Invisible Glass to get the bugs and gunk off, but then...something I just learned about....Fast Glass towels...most incredible auto care invention in years...you simply get it wet, wring it out, and wipe the inside(and outside if you like), of your glass and walk away....BOOM all the film is completely gone...amazing..
Interior plastics/black plastic items-Formula 303...nothing compares, period
Tire dressing-Zaino. Been using it for years...it's not that mirror finish gloss crap from the auto parts store..a very nice clean look that lasts a long time.

Thanks for the advice...wish more places put together a "beginner's pack" to make it a little easier for us newbies.

Seriously! I have found the autogeek.net website extremely helpful and have some direction thanks to their how-to sections; I now have SOME direction...and a $300 wishlist of products.

I'll probably email them to see if they can dumb it down further and hold my hand some more.

Put the platypus front plate holder on over the weekend then picked up a $5 frame from autozone to get rid of that silver plate edge.

I like it. It looks nice out there floating an inch in front of the bumper. Doesn't block the view of the brake ducts, and won't restrict airflow to the intercooler like the hide-aways will.

Installed a AFE dry filter and i had the JCW exhaust installed. I have to say the I'm VERY happy with the new exhaust. It has a such a nice sound and it really gargles and pops now :)

Just thought I'd follow back up on this. I placed an order through autogeek.net and found a great starter kit here (without the wax - since I'm a beginner):

Great guys and helped me get started with an orbital and the right combination of wax, polish, and claybar.

They have some good kits and very responsive to e-mails

Those words scare me! I'll get there eventually, but starting off small.

It is VERY easy to get started.

I started on my 530xi and found a great resource of info here

Take a look around there are a bunch of tips and DIY threads. The new orbitals are juts about error free and VERY hard (if at all) to burn your paint. Just don't use an old school polisher.

Windows tinted! 35% in the front and 25% in the rear. Looks so much better (even with a cell phone pic)!

started 'dipping stripes onto my roof box

2" set down, looks like it needs to be finished off..
http://i42.tinypic.com/15i14qu.jpg

decided i wanted red pinstripes by using red electrical tape to see how it would look...
http://i40.tinypic.com/16c9wrc.jpg

taped for the pin stripes..
http://i44.tinypic.com/294jk28.jpg

laid down a base/prime of white before the red
http://i44.tinypic.com/2jfarrs.jpg

i need to do a little touchup on the pins before the final coat of red on top of the white, so i'll let the white cure over night and finish up tomorrow. so far i'm happy with the way it's gunna look.

It most likely would have been easier and better to take the rings off which really takes about 2 mins tops.

Nice job!! How'd you get it so well rounded around the chrome?

ASKtheteach 08-18-2013 05:59 AM

Finished up the rear badging. Last weekend, I installed the "COUNTRYMAN" tramp stamp on my 2012. I had to order a new "Cooper" badge, since the letters are individual, and I wanted everything to look right. The new badge arrived Thursday, and after taking precise measurements off a car on the dealer's lot, I just installed it. Looks absolutely factory. You wouldn't be able to tell that mine's a '12 from behind.

Yup. Front rings, simple. Rear, not so much.

dpike 08-18-2013 09:47 AM

pinned the red on the roofbox...

Thanks. Yea it would have been easier to take the rings off which I plan on doing in the future. I applied 3 coats and made sure I hit them from every angle. I realize I posted this in the countryman thread instead of the cooper thread. My bad.

Erm... my CM says "Cooper" on the boot like all the other Minis.

scalpel_ninja 08-18-2013 06:30 PM

Hit some debris a while back and tore up the flaps (air dams?) in front of both front tires. Fixed them with epoxy covered by black duct tape. It ain't very pretty, but it's holding well.

EHans 08-18-2013 07:15 PM

Put new license plates on because the dealer sent the wrong ones. Just a hassle, and had to replace some screws that were pretty much one-time use.

etidd01 08-19-2013 05:52 PM

Got my order from autogeek.net and washed my baby! Looks like new again! So purdy!
