Picked up my countryman from the dealer yesterday. Ended up getting $1,000 below MSRP plus another $1,000 off for the Rock the Rivals coupon. The dealer also threw in floor mats and didn't charge a doc fee. All in all I am pretty happy with my deal and jazzed with my new countryman.
I paid full price ($36050) and never considered haggling. I wanted the car in the worst way and willingly did what was necessary. I did, however, negotiate the lease payment and got it down about $50 a month. With a lease, it's all about what is debited from your checkbook every month.
I purchased mine at Mini of Omaha. A very pleasant experience. They didn't have one I liked on the lot. They searched and found one at another dealer and had it shipped in. They waived the shipping fee. I dealt with Justin and completed the entire deal over the internet.
Mini of scottsdale wouldn't honor the Costco pricing, so I ended up getting one off the lot at Seattle Mini. Got the $1000 off plus removal of existing stripe and 3m, and free installation of the new stripes and 3m, and floor mats.
If you are ex-military and belong to USAA, try their new car buying service. We were given the names of 2 dealerships. One refused to honor their agreement but another was willing to sell me the car at roughly $2000 over dealer invoice which saved us a considerable amount...more than the Rock the Rivals coupon that we missed out on.
The fine print does state that you must buy a car in their inventory. Right now, that part can be a problem but you can try to get them to honor it on special orders. Sometimes a sale is a sale.
How about folks in Canada? What kind of 'discount' have you been getting and where did you purchase?
In ottawa, we only have one mini dealer so the choice are limited. However, I don't mind driving to Toronto area or Montreal area.
There are 8+ MINI dealerships in Southern Ontario so you should definitely look outside of the single Ottawa dealer. Some seem willing to deal, others not at all or they try to pull "we don't do quotes over the Internet". However I am looking for a custom order 2012 JCW, not a Countryman.
I've got one dealer that is working out to be $2,000 cheaper out the door than anybody else - and I think there is still more room. I know MINI's are selling well and they don't make too many JCWs, but no way I'm paying full MSRP.
