Drivetrain All4 "S" Air Cleaner access
It's really simple and straightforward. There are 3 torx screws/bolts holding the top airbox cover. They are either T25 or T30. Two on the front lip, one on the lower left corner of the airbox.
You will need to unscrew those (don't worry, they're held in the plastic holes as not to fall out). Then you will gently lift the cover up. The intake pipe will be attached to the top lid of the airbox. You will need to loosen that connection (I do not recall if it is clamped or interlocked) and remove the top of the airbox (set it aside on a clean surface).
Finally, remove the old paper air filter and replace with the K&N filter, making sure to place the plastic lip into the groove on the outside edge of the new air filter. Then, repeat the earlier instructions in reverse.
All in all, a 5-10 minute job - I promise.

Increase airflow into the motor. More air = better performance. Switch just the filter isn't as effective as replacing the whole intake system, but it is easy and cost effective.
