R59 Top replacement

Anyone replaced their top? The back window fell out during the TX heat and since there have been a few other issues that required us to actually cut the rag top to get in. Mine is an auto drop top that work just fine mechanically. I'd like to find a tutorial/video to see if I can replace the rag top. Seems like it shouldn't be too difficult.

Any help would be appreciated!

We've had ours for 10 years and it's holding pretty well. It is driven everyday all year long in all weather including rain and snow. That said the car is a good portion of the day in the garage. Only during some occasional travels have we had it in the sun the all day.
There are earlier post you can search of owners that have had their top changed. Look for post from 2014 to 2017 or so. Early buyers who decided to have theirs change before the warranty run out after seeing mild wear on the fabric.
Your best bet is to dig out those thread to see if they have posted information. Or to contact them to see if they collected instructional information.
The Roadster being such a "rare" car you will unlikely find anyone who has attempted to change the top themselves yet, and less likely they have a video about it.
Last, my guess (and it's just a guess) is that it is not an easy job without instruction :p

That all said perhaps you're the one :D!

Curious about it I found this: https://v2.topsonline.com/category/C...-Cooper-S-R59-

So I looked at both links. All helpful info. I already purchased the roof from a similar site. And I will dig into this forum deeper than I already had with no results. Gotta change my search words I guess.

I too have had my Zazz for a little over 10 years. Daily driver until about 8 months ago. We lost our house, and garage!, to a house fire and with all that goes on with the tear down then rebuild, and then the back window falling out, I decided to take it to my sons (TJ!) in VA as he has a detached 2 car tandem garage I could cover and store it. He doesn't mind helping me do major surgery on my LOVE but only if we have some guidelines. I can't believe there isn't a video out there anywhere about doing this. MAYBE maybe I'll make one.

Sorry to hear of the miss fortune... Saddly it's the nature of this short production car. Just under 7000 in the US alone. About 24k world wide. Quite small to get enough DIY who have attempted the replacement. Think about it. Low production count. A certain percentage are already gone to the dump. A good percentage will have it done by someone. Most still in existence have their original top. It leaves a smaller chance for someone to have done the job themselves and documented. The regular convertible has a much bigger production with a lot of info available :/

Ideally you could get your hands on mini instruction manual but without getting the parts from them you would need to have a friend at the dealer.
I do remember someone else talking about their rear window falling. Perhaps another way to search about the soft-top(?)

PS: the earlier posts on the subject all discuss replacement by the dealer if I recall correctly...

This guy has done it but didn't post the replacement itself. Maybe you can contact him?

I actually reached out to him a few months ago. Offered to take it to him as he is in TX, IAH if I am not mistaken. Before I do that I'll take it to a MINI guru locally as we have a few. I just wanted to do it myself. Makes me feel a lil badass if I can do stuff like this. I also do all of my general maintenance myself.

I hear you. I do a lot of work myself. I just did the brakes a couple of weeks ago. It is always its own reward! The labor cost saving aren't negligible either especially for these types of time consuming job.
Even the dealer doesn't do those very often so obviously despite having a lot of help and tools they are often newbies to the exercise themselves. But they do have access to information!

I've been thinking about the top replacement in the future so I'm curious as well. So what ever info you get please share :D
We're keeping this car for the long run
