Visited the MINI Plant in Oxford last week

Booked a tour to see the MINI plant last week in Oxford and it was an incredible experience.

We got to see the body shop, where they have 1000s of robots and only 90 people working.

The tour doesn't include the paint shop, but we do get to visit the Assembly line, where the MINIs come in fresh from Paint Shop storage and we get to watch everything from seats, to cockpits, engines, wheels, and even fuel added, then driven off the line.

I only live 25 miles down the road from the plant but there were some Americans on the tour with us.

Saw some of the new five door MINI hardtops in production and a few R59s. All the R59s were either white silver or pepper white, and a Spice Orange waiting transport.

very nice . . .

They probably don't want to show you the paint shop because that's one really disappointing area with MINIs . I don't know about BMWs but the paint durability on the MINI is really poor It's as if they use nail polish on these cars...

My 05 Volvo got beat-up for 9yrs this August and it never had the kind a paint chip the MINI got within the first few month. That's my only real beef with the MINI to this date but it's a frustrating one if you plan on keeping the car for the long haul.

I know no one want's to see other cars on here but this is my other car. This is after 7 years of ownership. About 2 years ago. It does put the MINI paint quality to an utter shame

I might consider a clear protection if I see more paint chips. I don't like it because it takes away from the clear coat shine but I don't know if I'll be able to take the paint chipping for too long...

My Spice Orange R59 was, according to Ask Mini, sitting at the factory about the time you were there. I hope you told him (the wife and I are still discussing names) I'm anxiously waiting for his arrival.

He finally boarded a ship and is currently cruising off the coast of France, so I'm hoping to bring him home in 3 weeks after we get back from WeddingPalooza2014.
