R59 Roadster Getting the Axe
Roadster Getting the Axe
MINI has some big changes scheduled for its lineup, and the current Coupe and Roadster aren’t a part of the picture.
The British automaker plans on building 18 models off its two new architectures within the next five years, with a new sports car to succeed the current Coupe and Roadster models. Though the vehicle will share MINI’s new front-wheel-drive architecture, the new sports car will look entirely different than what’s currently offered in the Coupe and Roadster.

Well, the essential issue is when the current Roadster is getting the ax. It was my understanding that they will keep it around for the next few years -- at least until the new roadster is introduced. In other words, it's not getting axed when the F56 is released next year. Has anyone heard otherwise?
Lol, why don't these designer guys stand in their normal working environment instead of some made-up trade show booth style setup
. . . So fake, it takes away from everything they do ... keep it real people! . . . and I know what I'm talking about trust me!

I will be ready to turn over Matilda about the time the new Roadster replacement comes out... I love this roadster, and I will want another one... I know roadsters are a niche car; however, if Mini completely abandons the roadster concept , I'm out!!!

Not really, no. Poor sellers, sure, and perennial losers to the Miata in pretty much every comparo, but then...the same could be said of the R59.
And I should have added the S2000 to the list as well. Another solid roadster, now discontinued, that has failed to skyrocket in value.

Here in Canada, a 2006-2008 S2000 will fetch $20-25k (sitting on dealer lots at $27k+ locally.
BMW/MINI are probably taking notice of the new plans for the Mazda Miata MX-5, which is reported to be a totally brand new rendition in collaboration with Alfa Romeo. New looks, new power plant. BMW/MINI stated last year, that the next generation in the lineup would be a "proper" Roadster, though to me that implies rear wheel drive.
Supposedly, the cars are being replaced in the order they were introduced (Hardtop, Cabrio, Clubman, etc.). Given that the Coupe/Roadster came out after the Countryman, but before the Paceman, it's logical to expect replacement sometime around 2016-2017 so there's no need to panic just yet.
The roadster. I think they look great with some of the appearance options but stock vs stock I don't care for the roadster at all. Then again I'm sure some feel that way about my cooper. Just my .02 of course.
Ah. Okay.
Well setting aside the fact that you came to the Roadster forum to mention how you don't like the Roadster, can you point me towards the $5K Body Mods that you feel correct the looks of the R59?
