R58 Suspension Refresh
Suspension Refresh
On my R58 S I have a leaky front left shock and with the state of the roads and number of speed bumps I face daily I am planning on refreshing all 4 corners and staying oem. This will be the first time I will be doing it myself but I am asking please for a little help on two points.
1. I have so far bought all oem spec parts for the refresh, Bilstien B4s, new top mounts, bumps stops front/rear and new coil springs.
Having looked at realoem at the exploded diagram, is there anything else I should be buying for the front or rear that would probably need replacing and I can not reuse/transfer from the original suspension components?
2. For anyone with the B4 Bilstiens, I notice that they don't not have the mount support for the stone chip guards. I assume then I simply don't run any with these?
Appreciate any help.

It sounds like you bought everything you need plus a bunch of stuff you don't. You could have reused 99% of those parts like the rubbers, perches, springs and that as that is what I do in my shop rather than making a customer buy them.
The B4s are usually missing those mounts for the rubbers on the rear, and usually also don't mount springs as well as we want. I tend to avoid the B4s as I consider them a low grade shock as they are very cheap that makes them popular, but have found going with other brands such as Sachs for absolute OEM, or really go with Konis as they perform so much better and really improve the ride.

Thank you WMW. I appreciate that.
I wasn't sure if I required them or not and I couldn't find much talk on the forums. As a daily driver I thought it best to have them than having everything stripped and then needing something with time off the road.
In hindsight I should have asked this before purchasing the B4s, I didn't know Sachs were that bit better, but they were priced the same - stuck with them for now. At this price point if they turn out to be poor then I can always change.
I was considering the B6s and Koni Yellows originally, the reds were ignored as I didn't want oil shocks, but from searching the forum what came up a lot (I know its subjective) was that they were all firmer again over sports suspension and I didn't want to firm up the ride being it is a daily. Mine does not have the sports suspension, I find it more complaint over rough roads apart from the mid corner bump steer which I want to address, as I found the sports suspension in my previous R56 to be very harsh and jarring over everything bar near smooth roads.
I have a 20mm adjustable rear sway bar and a front strut bar to accompany the refresh to hopefully fix the jitter and bump steering.
