Idk why mini didn't put a better mic in the car to block the noise these cars make. My last car was a Chevy Cruze and people didn't even know I was driving.

I just solved my noise problem. While on a call you can increase the mic volume. I turned it up to max and drive at freeway speeds. I got no noise complaints at all!!! The caller thought I was in my other car as the clarity improved 10 fold. It's in the tone menu for those with MINI connected.

I couldn't find the option to turn up the microphone in the mini. Are you referring to turning it up on the actual phone? My iPhone volume said "Bluetooth" when I adjusted the volume....? I have a 2012 coupe S, with the JCW dash option, if that helps.

The issue is also likely that there is only one Microphone rather than a noise-cancelling array. The new iPhone has 3 mics, and most androids and older iphones have 2.

It's not new technology, it's just lack of testing on the part of car manufacturers. It'd be nice if some one created an aftermarket module to replace the stock mic.

Sounds like you have to be on a call, and then go to the Tone Menu to crank the volume on the Mic up.

Can't confirm for about 20 days, still :\

On mine, it's actually in the MINI's controls. While on the call, I went into settings. I scrolled down TONE. From there I scrolled down to TELEPHONE and highlighted only while you are on a call was a setting to adjust mic volume. I turned it all the way down first which made it worse for the caller and when I turned it all the way up, the caller could really hear me. I'm typing this from memory. When I get a chance I'll go look and see if I can't take pictures of the menus though the option won't be active unless I have a caller.

Can I get to this without MINI Connected? I haven't been able to figure it out.

Nothing to do with Connected--go to the nav main/home menu on the screen in the car, one of those icons looks like a gear ("Settings"). Tone is one of those. It'll give you the option of 2 things under "Telephone" but only if you're on a call. I called someone, had them put the phone down for a minute, and dicked around with it. (Because once I made the call, I had to go back into settings/tone/telephone.) They said it sounded better, but I wasn't on a highway and this is not necessarily a person with acoustics as a forte. Tomorrow I'm driving on 795 (the worst of all the offending roads around here), will make a few calls and report back.

I don't have a screen because I don't have Nav or MINI Connected. I just have the speedo and the two lines if display plus buttons underneath it. Is there a way to get to thus setting from that setup?

This is done using the screen on the tach and the button on the turn signal stalk right, not the speedo screen.

The Bluetooth in my coupe has issues too but I don't think it can be blames on road noise. My issue is it sounds fine for me but the person on the other end says I keep cutting out for seconds at a time so they have to piece together what I'm saying and even miss entire sentences. Anyone with this issue??

I know this post was from a long time ago, but thought I'd point out that if you have the nav system, you do this with the joystick and screen. If you don't have nav, it's on the stalk.

Also, I hear that once you get non-runflat tires this improves a lot. Anyone?

Another thing that can make for extra noise on a call is having the right side drivers AC vent pointed at the mic. Just make sure you push it over to the right or just shut it off when using the phone.

I've had Mini try to fix the issue but it didn't help. They installed a little foam thing which apparently theres a fix bulletin for? Didn't do jack, so don't bother. I just found out today that when they did that they screwed something up with my Mini Connected. When I plug a phone in and try to do Pandora it's almost like the sound isn't going through the amplifier. If i crank the volume up to max i can hear it, theres no low end at all, and there is (of all things) alternator/engine whine which usually indicates a ground issue or something. Wish I had checked that sooner, but I've got another appointment for that on the 20th and I'm going to have them fill up my gas tank or something for the trouble >.<

Replacing the runflats will probably help a lot.

Can someone give a step by step how to adjust mic volume? I do not have connected or navigation in my car and have went through every possible setting in the tach area while on the phone. I do not see anything that has to do with adjusting any kind of tone.

I'm in the same boat as you. No Connected, no Nav, and can't find any adjustments. Maybe you have to be in a call for it to be available? That's the only thing I didn't try yet.
