2009 Mini S coolant gushes out

So my daughter overheated last night. Her and her boyfriend noticed that the car had no coolant in the reservoir. They waited for the car to cool off, filled up the reservoir with the correct coolant. By the time she got home the reservoir was empty and the overheat light was on again. So this morning I checked the vehicle. As soon as I filled the reservoir, the coolant started rushing out the bottom until the reservoir was completely empty. I thought for sure it was a bad hose somewhere but i can find one. It appears to be rushing out from the left side of the motor. As soon as I pour the coolant in it starts rushing out. In the pictures I have a mirror pointing to where the coolant seems to be coming from. You can't see it in the pictures though. Any suggestions on what this could be?

I would guess that the plastic thermostat housing has given up the ghost. But I have a 2011 N18. You may want to do a search for coolant leaks, or post under "R56 stock problems/issues", as this is not necessarily a problem specific to the R57.
