Regardless if they are powered folding, I think they can still be manually folded back becuase if you do leave them out, and somebody hits them, I would hope they would fold back or forward rather than completely snap off.

Zanary,
OK this sounds like the Mirrors have power ALL the time. When you turn the dial, it sends a 12v signal to the motor that works the mirror, or possibly a computer.

I would think you could handle this with a relay. Actually 2, one for In and one for out, while not comprimising the original switch.

Turn car to ON position, signal sent that MIMICS the original switch to open the mirrors. Turn car off, send signal that MIMICS the original switch to close the mirrors.

I'm going to post a thread in the MODS section and see if someone is brave enough to help out with this.

Thanks for doing that.

I'm wondering if any of the R56 or R57 owners will be willing to try this. The heated power foldering mirrors were an option in 2008 and 2009 for the R56 and the 2009 R57, so just maybe.

Has anyone retrofit the powerfolding mirrors on the R56? I'm just wondering if it can be done if all the parts needed are ordered.

I know this an old thread but can you power fold the mirrors while the car is moving say... 5 MPH?

I currently don't have a MINI, plan to have one soon and I have a small single car garage. It's a tight fit. I'm wondering if I can fold both mirrors as I'm entering the garage and flip them back out once I clear the garage door frame?

You can fold them in up to 20 MPH, and out at any speed.

Ditto, that is good to know as I needed that when trying to avoid the "massive" snow banks still on the streets in DC traffic this week! I just prayed I didn't hit the right mirror...now I can fold them in!
