Let's just hope it's a pop up that has popped up! It would really look stupid that way, could fasten a spare tire to it, as well as some sugar cured hams.

That page does say (in translation) that the color shown will be available in 4th quarter 2007 and only for the Sidewalk cabrio.
Just to clarify (or confuse further), it is true that White Silver will only be available for the Sidewalk in Europe. But I believe, that it is going to be offered on non-Sidewalks in the US.

They almost look like parking sensors. I'm uninformed, but do they offer parking sensors on MINI's? If not, maybe this is something they are adding because of the lack of vision in the cabrios.

Yeah, they've always been standard on the convertible..optional on the hatchback

I'm guessing the rear machine gun ports are really......back up sensors..why one would pay $$$ for that in such a small car escapes me but to each their own.

Then again, we ARE ready for another MINI in the movies...just re-watched Italian Job for the umpteenth time last week...gotta love the MINIs.

They're standard on the convertible. It has worse rear visibility than a Hummer.

+1. Not a problem in the Miata you may be used to, Miata13, 'cause of the lack of stadium seating in back

Unlikely...and I think the '09s will be great. Honestly, I used to pay more attention to all the pics and spy shots but once the cars wind up in the showroom...they're really great! In fact, I think many folks' minds were poisoned by too much unenlightened R56 speculation, same with the angst over contrasting Clubman c-pillars. We need to give the guys and gals at MINI some credit...they've done quite well. Bring on the new carbio...can't wait to see it........in person!!

New pics on Motoringfile:
http://www.motoringfile.com/2008/04/...i-convertible/

Nothing earth-shattering. . . an R56 with the same soft top.
Parking sensors have been moved down to the plastic trim though.

Man, I hate the shape of the "hips" of that car, vs. the R52.... much too square.... I better hurry up and order my spare R52 to put in storage.

Do what you want but:
1) Pics are very deceptive, especially spy pics.
2) MINI generally does a very nice job of dialing in these cars. Don't fret too much.
3) Folks tend to get excessively wound up over minutia and then after a year or so it's a non issue....simply a "po-tay-to"/"po-tah-to" thing.
4) With almost all MINIs there are things we may not like right alongside with things that really, really are great. The '09 carbio will be the same...I urge optimism!!!
5) These cars evolve and many improvements naturally take place, but we will all still have our favorites and good reasons (to us) for it. 'Tis the way of things. Newer may not be better...but in some ways, yes, it does tend to be. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with any previous model though...in the end all MINIs wind up being pretty great!!!

That's a good point!

I prefer the look of the R52 to the proposed 09+ cabrio but thats because I own one, and I'm biased.

Is it me, or does this latest R57 spy pic not show what appears to be a roll bar on the back seat?

Does not look like it. Top left corner, first picture. It seems I can see roll bar in the back...

Yep... that pic appears to have EXACTLY the same rear headrest/hoop config as the R52... Though at this point they've done so much to obfuscate this subject (with fabric shams covering that area in other pics, etc) that I don't think anyone's gonna know for sure until we see the new car in the flesh... I wouldn't put it past BMW to retrofit the mule with the old headrests and rollbar covers just to throw us off and avoid suppressing sales of the remaining R52's...
