My car is retarded

Now, I was looking over this thread last night, and I couldn't decide if I should have been envious or upset. On one side - I don't think "normality" of a trouble-free car is something to be proud about, but ultimately we are sooooo proud of our normal kids, pets or even wives that we have to show off (I have neither)....

Anyhow... My R56 car is a bit retarded - has "special needs" whatever (has the "P2188/check engine light problem" that drives me up the wall) to the degree that I want to trade it in/lemonize it. For another Cooper, nevertheless.

That probably says it all.

MMM

Don't worry about it. As long as it's running, ignore the CEL. This is just a glitch in the programming, for which a cure is coming. Certainly nothing to lemonize over!

The ONLY problem I've had in 2600 miles was a loose and rattling knee bolster. Fixed it myself by repositioning the clip.

The day after I got it I noticed the side panel in the foot well of the passenger side was outside the rubber seal. I moved it back in place and it's stayed there since. Last weekend (day 10 of ownership) I got a rattle in the dash on the passenger side, but it didn't last more than a minute or two and hasn't returned. The passenger side window squeaked for a day or two when the window was closed, but that no longer happens either. Seems to be a pattern on the passenger side.

Normally, a knee bolster is that front lip part of the seat that raises a little. It could also be the padded part of the dash on the lower part of the dash, designed to break your knees softly, should you not be wearing a seatbelt during a front impact crash. Some people also wrongly call the center stack post a knee bolster.

I wish I could say my MINI was problem-free. So far, though, all the complaints I have read have not applied to my MINI. It would be problem free IF the voice recognition system was working. I suspect it should not be a big thing to fix (either the button itself or a software upgrade/download), but what has me worried is that the dealer seems to know nothing about it. Don't even they read the manual????

1213 miles, no problems. Except that everyone I know wants to drive my car.
