Wow, that upset people? Flames verboten on a MINI, hard to believe. The 1960's established the Mini as a canvas for personal expression. I wonder what those people would have thought of roof flags if it wasn't something established long ago (probably before they were born)?

Your flames are subtle and elegant. Probably the most dignified flames I've seen. I expect that what I plan to do with my MCS will give some heart attacks.

Realisticly, though... out of 33,215 NAM members... your only talking about 3 or 4 people that seem to jump at anything negative regarding the new car. It's a REALLY small ratio.

Comments (more often than not) seem to be just the same two or three jabs over an over, spread amungst multiple posts.

Not really that bad when you think about it. Figure out how to ignore a couple people and life in the NAM gets pretty easy.

Very nice paint job there.

Other than that, I got no clue what this thread is about. I am going to self-express myself all over my Cooper when it arrives. There will be paint, polish, modifications, body work, interrior work, engine work, transmission, suspension work. Sheesh, the whole car is going to be attacked and ravaged in my overtly maniacal manner.

And when I am done, it will reflect me and my nutty creative streak. Why? Because I can! And next year, when I roll into the Dragon, it will be an event. Oh yes, it will.

And yet, through all manner of personification, the Mini will endure. The heart of the small car that ate the world, will be piloted by the most whacky of fools. Its owner. The one crazy bit of the car which knows no bounds for where the alteration of those good wheels may go.

If you are a snob, then do your car in its most snobby attire. If you are crazy, then wrap it in a straight jacket and hurl caution to the wind (just dunt **** into the wind). If you are conservative, then allow your mild manner to rest easily within the strength of the car. If you are liberal, then splash that pup with all manner of color and proclamations!

The car, your car, will be you. No other automobile will ever match this car's ability to match the owner. And if you are not having fun with it! Then I suggest you may need to be buried.

I may be a newb, when it comes to Mini ownership, but I am coming at you like Pheonix rising from the ashes! Now, let's have some fun!

One small side note. If you think your car is better than anyone elses, then you simply have stopped looking.

Ken: I am a newbie R56 enthusiast I got my car almost a month ago. Let's put some numbers in context, New owners haven't had their cars longer than a month, How many cars have been delivered so-far a few thousand in the whole USA? now of all those how many are on NAM, 100? Maby a couple hundred more that are awaiting delivery. A very small % of the total NAM membership, Beleive me all 300 existing entheusiasts are here, but those numbers will explode as more deliveries are made, and more orders placed ect...

P.S. Is it ok to be an entheusisat with "just a cooper"

R56, ss/b MC

Hear! Hear!

I did not want to distract attention away - my real purpose was to "illuminate" the fact that N.A.M. seems to be a magnet for some that seem to think the R50/53 is the only good MINI, and only when "done" their way.

I belong to 4 other MINI sites, and the comments about the R56 are constructive critism AT WORST.

Mostly, the opinions center around what everyone "will have to get used to" being that the R56 is here to stay, and after all...it IS a MINI!

When the new Verts come out, I will most likely be the first in line to try one out....

Actually, NAM is a magnet for everyone interested in MINIs....period. Whether they be classic Minis (1959-2000) or the new MINIs (2001-on). Like I continue to say all over the site, we are all a big MINI/Mini family. Some family members are more raucous than others.

Oh wow. Tequila and posting do not mix. Let that be a lesson to you all. Somewhere in that diatribe I wrote something meaningful. I am sure I did.

In the meantime. Sorry.

Well... if it makes you feel any better...

For being a Tequila-induced post, the spelling was incredibly good. Minus a few punctuation errors, it was a very well constructed diatribe.

Mini cooper owners tend to be good and courteous drivers. Lets all get along R52, 563 and 56's.

Personally, I never go to forums to read threads. I simply click on "new posts" and read whatever threads/posts seem interesting. And yes, some of the R56 topics seem interesting to me. Hope that's okay.
It's not unusual. Unfortunately, it is also not unusual for people to post inflamatory, purile and uncalled-for slights of the vehicle. There is even someone here whose signature tells me I am small minded because I will soon be driving an 07 MINI.

LOL! Thanks Chili, and msh. The Wife tells me Tequila brings out the hippie in me. hehe. Once I get up onto my 'self-righteous-indignation soapbox' it can take a few beans with a baseball bat to get me back down.

After reading it a couple of times. I think I meant to say, R-schmare. They are all Mini's. None better, none worse. Just different.

Hey Ken,
It's tough to be a new owner of a new model in a community that is passionate about the last version. If you like or love your new car that is all that matters. It is hard to read threads that seem to repeatedly turn into discussions of what went wrong with the redesign.
As far as I'm concerned, I have a MINI that is more than I imagined it would be. I also go to the MINI2 forum. It's amazing how different the discussion is there. It's very supportive and helpful. They have had the new model longer than we have here in the US so maybe NAM will catch up to that sort of supportive environment in a little while.
Please don't stop posting here, positive/constructive R(whatever) owners make this forum worth coming to. The way I look at it -- how often can the same points be made. After awhile even the posters will get bored with it. I'm certainly tired of reading the same set of posters repeat the same stuff and generally have reduced my time in this section -- I've been spending time on the MOTD forum. I have not read one negative comment there -- I guess a MINI event can bring the community together.

Whats the link to the MOTD forum?

For my previous car - an acura integra - there were several online communities, including one that was dedicated to the 2nd generation models like the one I had, so it would not be unusual to have an R56 community.

I deleted the rest of this. But after reading some of the posts I missed while I was away I just got upset and briefly wrote exactly what I felt.

Ken,

I think that 95% of all people here are great fans of the R56 and are either looking for advise for their upcoming order or are exciting about getting their car in a few weeks (very few actually have one already).

The reason why we see negativity here is that a few R53 owners like their car and dislike the new one for whatever reasons (they look the same on the outside (even if you have them side by side you can barely tell them apart) and every test you read about the car clearly says it is the better car in every aspect (now I will get a bunch of responses that this is not true) The fact that most MA are switching to a R56 tells you a lot). While the R53 is a fun car, it is far from being the original Mini nor will it be perceived as a collectors item because it was the first newbuild in 30 years).

In the next few weeks I believe a lot of people will get their new Minis and the discussion will more focus on how much fun they are, how to customize them, challenges and improvements ...

Like many other people, I drove both cars, ordered the R56 despite being more expensive by a few thousand dollar because it drives better, feels refined yet playfull on the inside and you can get luxuries in it that most little cars would not have.
I think the car is cute & fun and will be a lot of fun (I sincerely hope so, it is coming home on Friday ....):impatient

I think what we have here is a clash between people who are upset that the things they love about their MINIs have been watered down for the bourgeoise, and those who are new to MINIs and just ordered.

The first group is upset because they expect someday they will have to replace their current MINI and the replacement wont be the same as the one they love. There is a sense of loss. Enthusiasm for the R56 probably rubs them the wrong way because it is a kind of cheerleading for what they see as a loss.

The second group is excited about their purchase, but a little apprehensive because they entering uncharted waters. It is a little scary to base a $25-35K purchase on a 10 minute test drive, a slick pamphlet, kicking a few tires. So, having people criticize the R56 can be upsetting when what we want is reassurance that we have done the right thing.

I dunt need any reassurance. I just need a truck load of urethane to make the molds with. Then I can turn it into what I want it to be. Hehe. Ohhh,...the possibilities.

There is no right or wrong. All that matters is you like your car. I could give a rat's tushie if anyone else likes my car. I have been terrorizing sheet metal and paint for 30+ years and nothing this crowd will say or do will change that.

I knew a guy who replaced his front seats with toilets. Padded the seat and tank for comfort. Why? He was a plumber. He liked it and thought it was different. While I had to giggle a bit and he expected that, I also had to admire his fortitude for really going off the deep end and doing so in a conscious manner.

Poop on any of you who think the new Mini is bad, or the old Mini is bad. There is no such thing as a bad Mini. They are all just different. Accept it and move along. After all, if you think you are going to press my buttons, you got another think coming.

The MOTD is part of NAM.

I wonder if he shared his mod on a forum. I'd love to have read that thread!!!
I'd hate to be following this guy if he had a working flusher.

Kinda makes a long trip a little shorter -- less stops at the expense of having to keep the windows open.
I think I'd rather take longer.
If the car was a Cooper would it be a Pooper Cooper?

You know designerMINI, I did not have the nuts to ask if the seats were functional or not. He was a big guy.

It was not a Cooper. It was a truck.

Pooper Cooper,...ROFL!
