R56 How to name your car?
I pretty new to the Mini thing, will be placing my order this Saturday. I'm still thinking about a name for my mini
This thread had we wondering if someone could explain the history of naming your mini. How did it get started

I had a classic mini that I called Pogue Mahone... a play on words,"Pog Mo Thon" is Irish for "kiss my ar$3" I'm also a big fan of the band "The Pogues". At the same time I also had a 2002 Cooper, BRG. My classic then became "Pogue" and my 2002 "Mahone" We moved back to Ireland a couple of years ago so I sold both of my cars, but now we're back on this side of the Atlantic again so I'm between MINI's at the moment. I can't decide if I should get a R56 JCW when they come out, or just get a clubman/traveller should it ever materialize. Driving an automatic Toyota Camry is killing me so I might just have to get the S soon and then tweak it myself. Patience is a virtue though....
Naming my car...... well it all started the day that I placed my order. I, like most of the world was struggling with color choice. I finally settled on pepperwhite. As my husband and I were walking away he commented that it wasn't his favorite color but since it was my car it wasn't an issue (he has since come to love the color) but he said it reminded him of our almond colored refrigerator we used to own.
So from then on whenever I told someone what color car I'd ordered I say.... my husband says it looks like a refrigerator....
We have always named our cars so I was thinking of what we could name it. Former cars have been named Spot, Esther, Enoch (he never died... God just took him.... which should have been a warning of the accident that totaled him.... but he never failed to start....)..... and it hits me.... "The Refrigerator". When we lived in Chicago there was a football player that went by the Refrigerator. Many people still know of him.... his name is William Perry. And my car at that point became "Perry". It just fit. I then held a contest with my kids that the first one to tell me why the car was named Perry would be the first one to get to drive it..... my daughter said she didn't get any work done that day as she searched the internet for any reference of Perry and Refrigerators. (found some good deals on appliances while she was at it).
Naturally my number for the peerage of the pepperwhite is #72 - William Perry's number. lol
When we picked up the car the name just worked. The dealer always named the cars and so the name they picked out became my car's "middle" name.... So I have Perry Thatcher. (I guess that means I drive a 300 pound aging linebacker that has a history in British government?)

This is Stuart. Seemed a proper British name.
Our other car names:
Nigel - '80 Triumph Spitfire (named for Nigel Mansel)
Eleanore - '56 MGA (of Aquataine)
Sigmund - '72 BMW 2002 (Freud?)
Norman - '48 Chevy Pickup (Norm Abrams)
Hermann - 2000 BMW Z3 (Hermann Lang distant relative and '39 European Champion)

I've gone through two names thus far, and have finally decided on a proper name. My Mini needed something British, so I turned to one of my favorite movies for inspiration: My Fair Lady. I had a bit of a crush on Rex Harrison and briefly considered Rex. However, the main character (played by Rex) had a personality more akin to that of a Mini, and Henry Higgins it became.
Now if only I could fit "Come on, Dover, move your bloomin' ***!" on a license plate frame.

Mine is Rocket J, named after Rocky the Squirrel in Rocky and Bullwinkle. I had to misspell the name to get it on the license plates, which I ordered on 2/22: ROCKT J. Stinkin Texas 6-character limit.
He's Rocky to his friends, and he'll have a Rocky decal in the back window really soon. I just didn't want his name to get confused with Rocky Balboa!! I got him right before Valentine's day, so I was tempted to give him a related name, but he's definitely Rocky.
Texas folks: where can I find you? Houston MINI club????? Don't want to hijack the thread, so please PM me with info!!

I've never been one for naming cars, but since I ordered my Mini a couple of weeks ago I have had the urge. Being so new to the naming thing, I have no ideas either.
I saw in another thread someone named their car "Blimey." Perfect. The British-ism has the right feel to me. So, I like the idea of "Basil" - but pronounced in the British manner of "Bazzle." (Like Basil Exposition from the Austin Powers movies).
Of course, this is also my 2nd Mini in a row. I somehow feel I should honor the lineage to it's R53 kin somehow but I'm not sure. I sort of like "2 point O" - which is also a nice tie in to my work in the web industry.
Oh, decisions, decisons.

Love that show.
dean.
She will be named Romi (long O, i = long E, short for Andromeda in a sideways sort of manner) and have her constellation painted on the roof. (Still toying with low voltage LED lights for her constellation in the headliner).
We're also thinking of a name that would match well with our cat, Roxie (the only good reason is that we're weird that way...they'll be our two "children" for a few more years)
When he finally graces us with his presence, he'll be named Rudie (like the Clash song). Kills two birds with one stone: the Britishism is taken care of and it fits into the general modding theme that I'm planning. Matte black 18's and a drop, along with some power mods will make for one real rude boy!
