All-New 2007 MINI Hardtops Even More Fuel Efficient According to Recent EPA Testing
MINI Cooper with Manual Transmission Tops 40 Miles per Gallon WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In light of increasingfuel prices, many manufacturers are striving to produce vehicles with anaverage fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon. The fact that the all-new 2007MINI Cooper achieves 40 miles per gallon according to the latest EPAtesting should be welcomed by car buyers across the US. And that the MINICooper delivers this miserly fuel economy with no effect on its performanceand driving capabilities is an added advantage. MINI USA's growth in sales over the past 5 years to just over 170,000cars and the overall growth trend of the small-car market demonstrates howthe industry is responding to the need for increased efficiency. MINI is aprime example that buyers do not need to sacrifice performance, quality andfun when opting for a smaller, more efficient vehicle. On average the new generation 2007 MINI hardtops realize an increase of4 miles per gallon over their predecessors. The 2007 MINI Cooper with a6-speed manual transmission achieves a fuel economy of 32/40 City/Highwaywith a combined average of 35 MPG. The same car with an automatictransmission offers preliminary values of 30/37 City/Highway MPG with acombined average of 33 MPG. For the turbocharged 2007 MINI Cooper S with a 6-speed manualtransmission the following EPA fuel economy values are 29/36 City/Highwaywith a combined MPG of 32 MPG. And for the MINI Cooper S with the 6-speedperformance automatic transmission the preliminary values are 27/34City/Highway with a combined average of 30 MPG. As an important factor in improved fuel economy, the all-new 2007 MINIhardtops have a new family of lighter weight aluminum alloy engines thatincorporate more efficient technology. Both in normally aspirated andturbocharged versions, the engines feature variable valve train technology. In addition, the engines feature a volume-flow controlled oil pump thatdelivers only the necessary oil needed at that give time. These are justsome of the examples of how MINI has increased overall efficiencies. "MINIs offer loads of fun style and substance but they also happen tooffer a high level of fuel efficiency in a premium-small-car." said RichSteinberg, manager of US product strategy. And here's what I predicted back in October...
I said:
Me: 30/35 MCS and 34/39 MC
EPA: 29/36 MCS and 32/40 MC
I rule.

So I expect we might see EPA estimates of 30 city / 35 highway for the MCS, tops (current is 25 / 32). Maybe 34 city / 39 highway on the MC (current is 28/36).
EPA: 29/36 MCS and 32/40 MC
I rule.

I am so psyched by these mpg numbers I currently drive a 1999 jetta that gets a combined 22-24 mpg so if I get a combined 30-32 mpg that will make my day! I too was drawn to MC by the good gas mileage, and of course style. I also beleive personally that late 2007 we will see $4.00 a gallon regular but that discussion is for another time lets motor past those SUVs!
