Runflats?

I was under the impression that the R56 would have runflats across the board. All I see from the configurator is that the Web Spokes will have them. The rest seem to be listed as just "performance" tires with all-seasons being a no-cost option. Is "run-flat" just not listed and supposed to be understood?

I guess I always liked the techy-ness of the runflats. Anyone have any informed input about the spare tire situation? Anyone else a little disappointed?

Thanks,
John
P.S. This is by no means a deal-braker for me. I'm just curious whether my first mod will be a can of Fix-a-Flat for the boot

I think if you look at one of the other pages that lists the specs of the whole car you'll see it say something like 'all mcs come with runflats' or something like that. Look through the specs/safety page. I know I saw it last night. If I find it again I'll post here.

Yep, run flat is supposed to be just understood.

Yep, the Dunlop SP Sport (the tire I'm guessing we will see on the R56) is considered a performance run flat tire... and after driving it on the new BMW 330 through an autocross and track day... it's pretty nice (as run flats go).

Are run-flats more noisey and harsh than "regular" performance tires?

Thanks

They used to be.

But tire technology is moving very fast. There have been huge improvements in run flats just over the last two years.

The SP's on my dad's 5-series wagon are pretty darn quiet and the ride is great.

I ran SP's on the track and through an autocross course in a 330, and they gave a good degree of grip and showed only slight wear after a 1/2 day of flogging.

A dedicated sport/performance tire will be better... but for the type of driving most of us are doing 95% of the time... well, I'm going with 'em.

Is that Dunlop SP 9000?

Is that the Dunlop SP 9000 they're putting on the MCS? I have run that tire as a non runflat on my Grinnall Scorpion for nearly seven years. They have been terrific. The reason I bring this up is that recently I needed to replace these tires (I run them on a Grinnall Scorpion) and when I contacted the Tire Rack I found the non runflats were being discontinued and got a good price on a new set. So they switched this style to a runflat and it's going on the Mini? I looked through the miniusa.com site for a while but could not find a specific tire brand mentioned. I should add that these tires were not noisey. Believe me, with two of them within my eyesight at all times, I'd notice if they were. If this is what I'm getting on my 07 MCS as stock, maybe I'll be running through the set rather than replacing with non runflats. Hmmm.

Thanks for the detailed info.
