Actually, I was referring to the slurs and personal attacks....

I have no problem with someone telling us what they think about the car...

I like my '06 just fine. I'll let them work out the bugs and clean up that console before I begin to really look at one.

Sorry to hate but you guys are probably the punks that drive in the left lane on the highway going the same speed as the slow *** hole on the right of you. Name calling is so uncool! Your post is very vitriolic brg and uncalled for! If you're trying to make a point, there are better and more diplomatic ways to do so. Now, take a deep breath, relax and count to ten... You'll feel better.

Oh I know what you meant, I guess I wasn't clear. I only referenced the car because if the new Mini wasn't getting bigger, taller and a softer suspension then we may not of had the name calling in the first place.... In other words no one should be getting so worked up over a car...(added line) as to start name calling ..How's that?

Boy... and I was worried my discussion with clarkdr81 on another thread could be misinterpreted as pushing the limits here. Apparently, we weren't even close!

So, uh... gee... has anyone seen any new pics of the Paris Auto Show?

I think there's still some hope, though.

As I've said... the right wheels, a little drop... and some tint will go far:

Now that's more like it!

I'm really liking the way the side windows are not as tall. Gives the R56 a meaner, less toylike appearance.

R56 (the Cooper anyway) is one silly millimeter shorter overall.

I think the JCW kit really makes it look a lot meaner. I like it. Speaking of mean, check out this car.

I think I really like it. Looks pretty bad @$$!

But like I was saying, certain mods will take care of some of the toy-like looks of the R56.

I don’t know specifics or measurements but I totally agree!!! The front-to-rear taper of the window height seems more acute on the R56, which I find extremely appealing!

This is an excellent point. Personally, I have no interest in a bad-a** MINI....none....not my thing. It's all a bit cliche to me. But those who do have tended to pursue mods to that end anyway....many w/ great results!

Sacre bleu! Un 300C version Français!!
It does look good, but has two things going against it.
1. It's a Peugeot
2. It's a Peugeot

Also, how long do you think that pseudo-Pontiac beak would last if you parked on the street?

Very true, as someone commented on the autoblog site, its French so its got all style but no substance. I was kind of disappointed by the videos they had of it too because there was no engine sounds.

NOTE TO AUTOMAKERS: If you're going to make a video of your car, let us listen to the car not some cheesy music. If its a good car the engine should be the soundtrack

The current MINI is "visually" low enough, but the look of the R56 with what appears to be a higher beltline would benefit a lot from being lowered. That and a set of 18" wheels would look so-o-o hot. 18"s aren't practical where I live, but I can dream can't I?

You may be right! For me it is so hard to make a call like this w/o actually seeing it/studying it in person. I'm pretty sure I won't be lowering my own R56 MINI (it'll be a Cooper), but if the height on R56 is the lowest it can be legally (according to MINI2...in the EU, I suppose) then here in the U.S. is may be perfectly reasonable to lower it.

If you dont like it ...dont buy it, simple as that freedom of choice is a great thing .There will lots of previous minis for sale for many a year to come if you don't likr it ..Ive had FOUR minis since the introduction of a wonderful car ...it only gets better by the years. My present one the JCWS is out of this world in the terms of driving and fun for a small car ,so lets not be harsh on the new model .I have to decide if I buy a GP or hang on till the R56 is on the road ...lets all do the same , as judgement day will soon be here . Ok rant over ....I wonder what the 3040 think that did not reply .
From one classic Mini owner to another, I agree 100%. I LOVE the current MINI as do I LOVE my Mk3 classic. I know that I will LOVE the next generation as well. There's just something about the Mini, no matter what generation. One thing that makes the car so much more appealing is the "family" that you are in when you own one. It sucks to think that some may alienate R56 owners because they are not driving "true MINI's" or that they are watered down.(my words, not quoting anyone). That's just rediculous. If you don't like it, don't buy one. If you are in any kind of Mini Club, you WILL have friends with one, one day. Can't we all just get along?

When I open the windows, I'm reminded very much of a classic MINI...and that wins me over almost immediately. R56, along with being consistent with the design direction of R50/53, has also apparently taken another look back at the classic Mini for design inspiration. That's a very, very good thing. Wouldn't want R50/53 regurgitated all over again....a fresh approach, still rooted in the Mini heritage is welcome, I think. Although I admit the interior has it's strengths and weaknesses to my eye, overall I think they did very well. The larger speedo, the tri-level dash, the doors....yes, there's lots for me to like here.

alpinamike........fascinating video!!! Wow!! Interesting how the lines in the bonnet are now the guides for placement of bonnet stripes. Interesting perspective on the interior, too....I felt right at home!

Makes me wonder how much our discussions may change when we actually get to see the car in person.
