I like the interior a lot better than I did when I saw the first group of "pre-production" pictures.

I like it better then the current interior. The front looks good as well. I hope they show it off soon.

I'm worried that between the ped. safety dictated changes (which equals more overhang) and cost saving measures that the exterior has gone from bulldog to bullfrog.

Take a close look: When they pull the camo off to reveal all the headlight, it's going to look even more "splayed" out. Combine that with the overhang, a pastel BRG and you've got Kermit ready to roll.

The interior—I'm warming to a bit. But iDrive gives me the *******.

Glad I bought now. The interior looks more early-60s futuristic (Jetsons anyone?) than retro early-60s. And I prefer the split upper grill.

if they do the turbocharger like the SRT-4 (it's probably a similar engine as the last 4cylinder unit was a dalmer-chrysler power plant) the turbo lag will be near unnoticable and you'll be able to utilize that boost thru a larger RPM band, you don't get peak boost with a supercharger till your in the upper RPM ranges.

Unless the turbo version, is amazingly better than the current supercharged version, I'll be looking for a used 06 cooper w/LSD, when I'm ready to buy. Hopefull they'll be a good bit cheaper then too.

This is a completely new engine designed and engineered by BMW. It has nothing to do with the current engine.

Turbo Lag?

Turbo lag is a very touchy subject, and there are many factors that can contribute to its being. Smaller turbos generally are not going to experience enormous lag because of their size, they take less pressure and time to spool up. If you are running a larger turbo, that is usually when it takes a long time to spool. There are also other factors like displacement, backpressure, and other little tuning things to eliminate turbo lag. However, it looks as though this new engine is not going to be running a gigantic turbo, probably something around the same size as the turbo on my GTI. If it were running a much larger turbo, it would be making a little more power than around 170 HP. My GTI doesnt exibit much turbo lag...usually spooling around 2000 RPM with full boost by about 2500 leaving me with about 9 PSI all the way until 6500 RPM. Now that is not too bad for being turbo charged...and the feeling of that turbo when it kicks in is a rush. This leads me to believe that this new engine is not going to be lagging much at all!

As for the new MINI...I will be saving my pennies and dimes because I want a piece of the action. I like the new interior, and because I love the styling of the current MCS, I am happy to hear that it is not going to be changed that much. The interior looks interesting as well and I cannot wait to get in one!! Only time will tell for sure though. Anways, long post, sorry people, and for those that stuck in to the end...thanks!!

I like, I don't like... no worries! The MINI lives on! Isn't that the most important part?

Well they sure did have pretty much everything right the first time if the newer generation Mini has only minor changes!

Anyone seen these photos?

Hey guys, new guy here! I decided to register after reading my eyes dry for the past week. I have a 71 cooper that I imported about seven years ago and I'm looking forward to getting a new Mini in the future.

I've been reading a lot on the next generation Mini and always look forward to seeing new pictures. I swore I had seen them all until I came across this site.(please excuse my ignorance in linking websites) www.wheels24.co.za Then click on the link "latest galleries" on the left. Under Mini there are some shots of the 2007 that I have not seen before, mainly interior. Maybe these are old and you're all laughing right now, but I haven't seen these.

Excellent find, any reason you were searching a South African site I used to live there for 12 years as a kid...

Welcome to the party (NAM)

Thanks guys, I figured they were probably old news

Thewrks, It just came up when I googled "2007 mini". I swear I've done that same search 20 times, but never saw that link. Probably looked right at it 20 times and never clicked on it 'til today!

I do have a question for you veterans of this thread. Have the larger taillight sheetmetal areas been confirmed? As you come down the rear window and get to the bodywork they seem to stick out quite prominately. Maybe it's just my eye, but it's got more "back" than the current model, eh?

Nah, I thinks that's just camoflage padding though it's hard to tell for sure.

Just a question.. Here on the 2007 MINI talk, the first thread is done by DiD and that thread is closed. What or which concept car is that, that doesn't look like the same MINI we've been looking here?

If you look really closely at some of the pics we've seen, there appears to be black camo covering the cowl vents...I think they're still there. I sure hope so, it's one of my favorite details on my car!

The new engine...

Is going to make this car! Even without a turbo, the twin cam engine will offer great potential, and with the turbo, possibilities for high outputs will prove to be amazing... Hide and watch! -Jeffy.

That new engine is going to be great! Go test drive a new VW GTI, 06 model. It has a 2 liter turbo engine with a lot of the same technology this engine will have such as the direct injection. There is zero turbo lag, and that thing flies. The best part is this, no more expensive pulley upgrades with labor cost for 15-20 hp. A simple ECU flash upgrade for around $450 should give you 40-50 hp!! The new GTI engine stock has 200 hp, and the $450 ECU flash gets you to 265hp, and 305 torque!! Amazing improvement and for a super cheap power to cost ratio!! Power should be a lot easier to come by with the new engine!! I know the old 1.8Turbo VW GTI engine had stage 3 and 4 turbo upgrades taking the car to 300-380 HP for around 3-4 grand!! I just hope the car looks as good as the current model! Peace!

I'm amazed. Having only "owned" my '05 CVT MC for little over a year, I shouldn't give a darn what the next Mini will look like, but I do. I guess what interests me most are the claims (and, so far, that's all they are) that the interior build quality will be much higher. That's probably one of my biggest complaints about my current Mini, all those little creaks, and squeaks, and rattles, that come and go as they please. I've learned to live with them, and have even eliminated a few, and I may even vanquish them all one day. Perhaps...in about 4 years, when the Mini is finally paid off.

Like a lot of Mini drivers, I have a love/hate relationship with the vehicle, and it's nice to think that the next version will eliminate all the little negatives of the current design. I kind of hope so, because I'd sure like to have an AWD version of this animal, with some more power, greater fuel economy, and fewer rattles, but that beast won't be out for at least another 2 or 3 years, so I've got some time to see how all this turns out.

I think the exterior looks fine, in the spy shots of the '07 model, considering it's partially camoflaged, and there will likely be a few last minute changes. I doubt the end product's rear light will look anything like they do in the photo. I am uncertain of the interior. Visually, I like my Mini's interior, other than the crappy cloth seats, and the new interior definitely looks a bit like something from a Jetsons cartoon, using the current retro look as only a starting base. However, if that more unified looking dash doesn't exhibit a new creak with every change in temperature and road condition, then it might be worth my interest.

For now, I'm still trying to make my little Mini the dream car I hoped it would be. New wheels are in the works, some minor cosmetic repair work, a snazzy new leather interior, cold air intake, muffler, and few other odds and ends, including doing some serious anti-rattle/creak work. After all that is done...I may not want to part with the car ever, as I'd initially planned. The newest Mini might convince me otherwise. If it does, well...good for them, and me. If not...well, I'll just enjoy what I'm driving now as best I can. New car designs are always coming out as the years go by, and maybe the next one, if there ever is a next one, will be...something completely different for me. Maybe even a VW TDI, with AWD, as may come to these shores someday.

I just try to enjoy what I have, while I've got it. Our current Minis, regardless of whatever other cars may come, are cute, cool, fun little cars to drive, that will be appreciated by many for a long time, as long as those of us that have them...keep taking care of what we have, rattles and all.

From what I've read, the Mark II Mini will be slightly larger than the Mark I version.

The car grows 2 inches in wheelbase and overall length. This was done to increase legroom for rear seat passengers. I also read that the Mark II version will be approx 1.75 inches wider, but half of that width is due to bigger mirrors. The height of the car stays the same.

I'm not sure about there being any extra length adding up to extra leg room for rear passengers. That would be pretty nice. The Mini Cooper is definitely a tad short in that area, and 2 inches would make a big difference, at least for me. However, I think any extra vehicle length has more to do with the new front bumper pedestrian safety standards thing, more than anything else.
I don't keep up on all of this stuff though, so I could easily be wrong on that. I don't think anyone will know for sure until the mark II version is out for review, but I could be wrong about that too.
