JCW R56 JCW Tune
R56 JCW Tune
My car is a 2012 dealer installed JCW package at new. I have the JCW stamp on top of the engine with tune # and JCW exhaust along with whatever else came with the package at the time. I do not have the full blown JCW factory package with the upgraded brakes.
I recently had my Mini at a local independent shop for a CEL. After diagnosis they determined the DME to be shorted internally and either needing to be replaced or repaired. I elected to have the DME replaced and cloned to the current DME. I explained to the shop multiple times that this car had a JCW tune and wanted to make sure that all of that was transferred to the new DME. I was assured that everything on the current one would be transferred to the new. Fast forward a few weeks and now the car is done however sport mode is not the same as it used to be. Prior to the repair when in sport mode the exhaust would pop and backfire on down shifts or when slowing down still in gear. This does not happen now (although I have been able to make it happen twice). I brought the car back to the shop and they rescanned everything and said everything is in spec to the JCW tune. They suggested that maybe the car needed to be driven for 200-250 miles for everything to relearn. I have had other cars this was true on. Is this the same case here? I have only put 20 miles on the car so far. If this is not the case how would I know if the tune is gone and I now only have a standard S tune. How would I go about getting the tune back? Any ideas/ assistance is greatly appreciated.

Flashed at the MINI dealership again. I would talk to them first. Drive it a while and see what happens first. I never delt with a clone ecu, so i dont know if it "takes a while". At the MINI dealer the flash is done and gtg.

I also have the dealer installed JCW tune and I rarely heard the pops and burbles, only when I was over 4K rpms. Once I switched over to a aftermarket tune, I hear it all the time when only in Sport Mode which is the way I wanted it. I would check with the dealer though to see if they could verify the JCW tune.
