Well a grinder it is then.

that is the vid I was watching, obviously they set these cars up before they do those.
watching the one to see what comes apart for the oil filter housing & oil lines.

don’t grind it. Since it’s spinning already, use your drill and socket and spin it as fast as you can, yes it will start to smoke from getting hot, once you’re at that point grab the bolt head and pull, this should pull the brass insert out of the plastic. I was then able to heat the brass insert up and break it free from the bolt, yes you will need new inserts, but you can reuse the bolt that you just saved.

The drill needs a unknown adapter, so maybe a air wrench?

set of these will help…
Amazon Amazon

the goal is to spin it as fast as possible to create the heat needed to help melt the plastic. So air wrench might do it. You can probably find these at a local automotive store as well.

Appears a 3/8 extension mostly fits that bolt head although the male end in a 1/2” drill not quite centered.
it is loose may take a while to be free as I added penetrating oil.

With the right lever it came out tho did not want to!
wheels & wheel wells are next then some 8 x 1.25 100 mm Bolts for bumper retainers.
I will post as it moves along, tho as I have had bumper off couple of times this is new so will work through it.
some special tools may be needed.

Can you use a thru bolt and nut? I don't recall if you have access from underneath...$6 plus shipping for that is, as usual, painful.

Painful yes but I’m sure if he uses google and that part number he will find them cheaper, I just happened to have that saved from my clubman. I really should close a few of these windows.

Thats about what everyone sells them for...$5-7 each. Shipping is the deciding factor.

There is the sensor under to disconnect then see how it comes out.
bentley manual shows this week.
this gets attention in turn with other vehicles, eventually I will get to filter housing.

If my memory serves me, there is a bracket holding the downpipe to the engine block.

Yes those nuts were quite rusty but came off before the manifold ones did.

All the heat protection is removed with the down pipe now to figure what I am seeing.
I did evidently not disconnect batter when I should have the front heat protector touched the alternator once, one spark.
do not know if that would cause any damage?
What is that in upper right of photo?

Oil cooler, Detroit has a option to add oil cooler seals?
of which cannot find in Bently manual.
Is the oil cooler part of oil filter housing?
yes I think I figured that out.

Does the water pump associated with the oil filter housing fail or known to fail?
it may ? Of been changed when the head was done, 50,000 miles ago?

Thier was a recall on them a while back and everyone should have gotten the updated part number 11538843817 . If you are out of the recall then just get a new one. They buzz after the car cools down, thats how you know they work and they run for a couple minutes. If no buzz or noise when car shuts off then they are not working or they can run for a long time and never stop(failed unit). The older design was a fire risk.
