I have an 07' R56 that I've done a little suspension work to: Madness lowering springs and adjustable sway bar, poly bushings and adjustable Konis. I also put on Wilwood brakes all around and 17"x 7.5 wheels to allow room for them.
For the last 3 years I have run 215 45 17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports summer and same size Pirelli Sottozero 3 winter. I live in Portland, Oregon (rain) and do photography for the Mt. Hood ski areas so I drive in snow and ice every week.
I have an F150 and a Pilot and a Pathfinder, but the Mini gets such good mileage (even with 265 HP!) that I drive it to the mountain often!
I love the Sottozero: I want another set but I can't get a 215! 205 is recommended, and I know it might be better in rain and snow, but dang it, I want to fill the wheel wells!
My question is, anybody running 225/45/17 tires on their lowered R56? I can get those...I paid for a set from Tire Rack at $158, but they held the order for a phone call because they weren't "factory size. I called and said I'd research, and now they have gone up to $190!!
I'm due for summer tires too and I'd love to go to 225!
I'm also wondering if a wider tire would protect a little from curb rash!
I do:
2012 MCS
Bilstein B12 Pro Kit
Konig Dekagram 17x8 ET45 (hubcentric rings all around, 5mm spacer to clear the strut up front)
225/45R17 General G-Max RS.
No mods to fenders or anything, fits fine unless you throw 500lb of man or marine batteries in the back, then it rubs over larger bumps. Basically tucking rear tire while stationary at that point.
Justification/FYI:
Basically I wanted to ditch the stock R108s because while they look nice, they're boat anchors (23lb each? vs 16.8 for the Dekagrams)
I had them off to do the suspension and noticed the inner lip is bent all to hell on 3/4 wheels so I figured a little more sidewall couldn't hurt, plus 225/40 isn't really a thing.
Speedo still reads too fast vs GPS, just not as bad as stock.
